A design competition has been underway since February 2011 as the inaugural project in the Target Studio for Creative Collaboration. Selected teams were asked to redesign the plaza at the east end of the Washington Avenue pedestrian bridge. The four finalists presented their designs to the public in the pecha kucha style at the WAMChatter on October 26.

The winning team, VJAA (Jennifer Yoos and Vincent James), working with HouMinn Practice (Marc Swackhammer and Blair Satterfield), and artist Diane Willow, associate professor at the University of Minnesota was chosen based in part on the performance of the team in this public program.

The next phase of this project will be to hold meetings with the winning team and the campus community in the Target Studio to refine the design and implement the plan.
