More pressure on drunk drivers will be coming through added DWI patrols targeting problem counties, according to a Minnesota Department of Public Safety report released Friday.
DWI patrols will be targeting 13 counties that are responsible for almost half of all alcohol-related deaths in Minn., Fox 9 reports.
The changes are following the success of 2011's crackdown on drunk drivers, which resulted in record low numbers, CBS reports.
According to CBS, Hennepin county was responsible for 20,000 arrests and 49 alcohol-related deaths between 2008 and 2010, the highest of any county.
Karen Deckert, an advocate against drunk driving, told Fox 9 that this is a step in the right direction, but believes that harsher penalties would drive down the number of deaths.
