The journalist searched for the records regarding the amount of deaths by border patrol agents as well as video taken by on-lookers showing an individual getting beaten. Skills that a journalist would need to do a story like this is searching government records and interpreting them.

Cottage View Drive-in in Cottage Grove off of Highway 61 is looking over plans to turn into a Wal-Mart Supercenter, which could make their 46th season their last.

Gerry Harringer, Cottage View Drive-in's owner, told Fox 9 that he is said to see the theater go, but buying a new digital projector as much as $90,000 to accommodate new technology is not a smart investment to make in a struggling industry.

Brent Peterson, director of the Washington County Historical Society, wants to preserve the dive-in's sign because of it is "iconic," the Pierce County Herald reports.

Hundreds of movie-goers attended opening night to show support for the drive-in, Fox 9 reports.

Only a handful of drive-in theaters exist in Minnesota and the struggle is far from over with the switch from film to digital movie making in 12 to 18 months, the Pierce County Herald reports.

The wife of a former Minnesota Vikings tight end awaits trial for a hit-and-run case where she admitted being behind the wheel of the SUV that struck and killed a man on an exit ramp in Minneapolis.

Amy Senser, 45, said she was behind the wheel when she hit Anousone Phanthavong, 38, who was filling his car up with gas on the side of a highway exit ramp around 11:00 p.m. on Aug. 23, the Associated Press reports.

Senser is facing three felony counts of criminal vehicular homicide alleging that she caused the accident, failed to notify authorities, and was negligent by using her cellphone, KSTP reports.

Senser did not come forward as the driver until a week after the accident, but maintains her innocence because she said that she didn't know she had hit anyone, KSTP reports.

Joe Senser played for the Vikings in the 1980s for four years before running restaurants in Minneapolis and doing commentary for the Vikings, the Associated Press reports.

Google launched their "Street View" service in Israel Sunday while accommodating security and privacy concerns from officials after months of deliberation, Google Israel said.

Meir Brand, managing director of Google Israel, Africa and Greece, said at the official launch on Sunday that they take security very seriously, and through very productive meetings ensured that people's lives would not be at risk, The Jerusalem Post reports.

A panel of government ministers took six months to create security guidelines before reaching an agreement with Google last August, the Associated Press reports.

The service covers public areas in Israel's three biggest cities and has implemented technology that blurs peoples' faces, license plates, and sensitive areas such military zones and the prime minister's home, The Jerusalem Post reports.

Israel slowed down the "Street View" process because of the concern that it could be used by terrorists like the Islamic Jihad militant group that said they used Google Maps to aim rockets, the Associated Press reports.

A Louisiana mother has been arrested on charges for negligent homicide after she allegedly left her four children alone in a mobile home who all later died in a fire, police said.

Capt. Doug Cain, a spokesman for the Louisiana Department of Public Safety, told the Associated Press that he is not sure where Shaqueta McDade, the 27-year-old mother, was when the fire started some time before 12:00 a.m.

The children died in the town of Rayne in southern Louisiana and were ages 2, 5, 7, and 8, but McDade's oldest child, Tyron, was staying with relatives when the mobile set ablaze, The Advertiser reports.

Rayne police officers arrested McDade after they interviewed her because they suspected that she left the children unattended, the Associated Press reports.

Neighbors have had trouble in the past with McDade leaving her children alone. Crystal Douga called the police last month because she caught the 2-year-old walking around outside in the middle of the night, The Advertiser reports.

Taliban militants raided a prison in northwest Pakistan freeing 384 prisoners in an attack that injured four prison officials and lasted more than two hours, Sunday, according to officials.

The attack happened Sunday morning in the city of Bannu, which has a heavy militant presence, and was an attempt to free other Taliban militants, officials said, CNN reports.

The display of strength by the Taliban involved automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades to make their way into the prison as they shouted "God is great," and "long live the Taliban," officials said, The Associated Press reports.

The targeted prisoners that were freed were awaiting execution for crimes including the assassination of former President Pervez Musharraf and bombings around Pakistan, officials said, CNN reports.

Asimullah Mehsud, a Pakistani spokesman, said that 150 militants made it back safely to Mir Ali, the groups main base of operations, The Associated Press reports.

Minneapolis teachers approved a new contract Saturday that satisfies some union demands to improve teaching and the school board will be voting on the matter Tuesday.

The contract adds and hour a week, four extra school days, and two preparation days during the opening week of school in order to remove distractions that hurt their ability to teach, MPR News reports.

"We have a lot of good things that will be good for students, for teachers, for schools and for the district overall," Lynn Nordgren, president of the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers, said, the Star Tribune reports.

The contract passed with 83 percent of the voting member's support, Nordgren said, MPR News reports.

The additional time given to teachers will add up about $3,000 a year for the typical teacher and raise district costs 6.4 percent to $17.1 million, the Star Tribune reports.

A mob of about 25 people attacked a Starbucks in the East Village in New York after a clash between police and protesters leaving an anarchist book fair Saturday, police said.

At around 8:45 p.m. about 150 people left the Fifth Annual New York City Anarchist Book Fair and started marching and chanting anti-police slogans near Washington Square Park, police said, The Wall Street Journal reports.

"This is something we don't have anything to do with, we are a book fair," event organizer Wayne Price said, NY Daily News reports.

Two NYPD officers were injured by the mob even though several officers were assaulted. Police were able to arrest three people on charges of assault and inciting a riot, The Wall Street Journal reports.

President Barack Obama said he wants a thorough investigation of the alleged misconduct by Secret Service agents in Colombia, Sunday, where he planned to visit.

In the press conference with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, Obama said he "will be angry" if the allegations are true regarding the scandal, ABC News reports.

Eleven Secret Service agents, which have been sent home and put on administrative leave, and five military service members were involved in the incident alleging that they brought prostitutes to their hotel, Bloomberg Businessweek reports.

Since prostitution is legal in designated zones in Colombia the investigation will revolve around whether protocol was violated and if the president's safety could have been compromised, officials said, ABC News reports.

"When we travel to another country, I expect us to observe the highest standards," Obama said. "Obviously, what's been reported doesn't match up with those standards," Bloomber Businessweek reports.

The story I'm using for the numbers analysis is from The Wall Street Journal. It's a story on how businesses are becoming more optimistic in the UK.

This story uses numbers in a few different ways. First it lets the reader know how many companies were a part of the survey, then it gives some percentages on how certain questions were answered. The story also gives some background information by using some GDP percentages.

The numbers are straight forward and easy to understand. The surveys are cited and easily Identifiable. I'm not sure if there has been any number crunching since some surveys come with an analysis and break down the numbers into more understandable figures, which the article might have used.

A Minneapolis police officer shot and wounded a suspect armed with a knife Sunday who was arguing with a woman at an intersection, police said.

Police responded to a call around 9 a.m. and headed to the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Lyndale Avenue where they saw Robert Wolf, 43, arguing with the woman who made the call, Sgt. William Palmer said, the Pioneer Press reports.

When the officer approached the two, Wolf pulled out a knife and began to make threats causing the officer to retreat and eventually fire his gun, Palmer said, the Pioneer Press reports.

Wolf was brought to Hennepin County Medical Center and is expected to survive, Palmer said, Kare 11 reports.

The Officer, who is a 24-yea-veteran, will have his name released Monday, and is on a standard three day leave while the homicide and internal affairs teams investigates the shooting, Palmer said, Kare 11 reports.

Three car bombs killed 14 people and injured 340 others Saturday in southern Thailand, which targeted shoppers and tourists in commercial zones, police said.

Col. Kritsada Kaewchandeehe, the district police chief, said the first blast happened in the commercial hub of Yala City and came from a pickup truck, while the second blast happened after witnesses gathered at the wreckage killing 11 people and injuring 110, the Associated Press reports.

The third car bomb exploded near a hotel in Hat Yai City triggering a fire and killing at least three people, National police chief Priewpan Damapong said Sunday, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Officials blame the attacks on Muslim rebels, which have flared after the killings of innocent people by the Thai army and release of a video of a soldier having sex with a teenage Muslim woman, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Most of the attacks by the Muslim rebels have targeted soldiers and other symbols of authority by using small-scale bombings and drive-by shootings, but it is only recently that the suspected rebels have targeted civilians, the Associated Press reports.

The Minneapolis Police Department has proposed an 8 p.m. curfew in response to the groups of young people that have attacked other individuals at least six times since early Feb., according to police.

If the curfew is imposed it would ban teenagers 17 and younger from the Nicollet Mall area and Hennipen avenue where the attacks occurred, Kare 11 reports.

"Certainly the vast majority of kids that come downtown are not creating these problems. But we have seen in the recent weeks, there have been some problems," Sgt. Steve McCarty told Kare 11.

The attacks have targeted young adults and teenagers and have sent one man to intensive care and another was left with a broken jaw when he was punched while riding his bike, the Star Tribune reports.

The people affected by the curfew would still be able to come and go from Twins' games and other events, but at this point the idea is only at the discussion stage, according to Inspector Kris Arneson, the Star Tribune reports.
