The 8th Annual National Urban Service-Learning Institute, NYLC's annual event designed to explore issues of equity and achievement in urban education, announced that it will be added to the Colloquium on P-12 STEM Education Research.
The Urban Service-Learning Institute, presented by NYLC within the event, will guide urban educators on standards-based service-learning for STEM education, integrating STEM with other academic areas, and thinking about service-learning as a pedagogy for increasing educational equity. Featured sessions focusing on urban service-learning at the event will include Rosilyn Carroll, Jean Strait, and Richard Webb of Hamline University's Center for Excellence in Urban Education engaging in a dialogue on service-learning as a means of reducing education disparities. Susan Root, NYLC's research director, will present on designing academically rigorous service-learning experiences integrating STEM, and middle school educators will talk about environmental education projects.
Information on breakout sessions will be available July 15 and will denote which sessions are part of the National Service-Learning Institute.
