max to arduino. . . no arduino to max

Thanks for the files

Unfortunately, I've run into the same problem. The data receive LED lights up when I start the patch, but my selfish arduino won't send anything back. The potentiometer works fine, but no values show up in max.

Maybe the arduino code needs to be altered so that it sends?
Or maybe the board is bad?

hello all,
since many of you are looking into the arduino/max communication, i check it out and found a working solution. 

it's a patch i made a  while back to be able to send MIDI to the real-world using an arduino.
if you look inside the patch you'll see how to communicate with the ardunio; it doesn't have to come from MIDI, of course; you can just make your own max patch to turn the output pins of the arduino on/off, or go read values form the anlog inputs.

this video shows how to work with it:


steps:

1.  install this arduino code on the microcontroller: "SimpleMessageSystem_example_1.pde"
2.  open this patch: "ali.midi-arduino.maxpat"
3.  use drop down menu to choose serial port (don't have Arduino IDE open!)
4.  use the keyaboard to turn pins on/off
5.  analog data flows in.

I already am using the accelerameter data from the iTouch to scroll through the sound buffers that i record, and want to use these data streams to use not just the value (position) of the data stream, but also the velocity and acceleration in which the data stream values are changing.
What objects must I use?

So hopefully the degree of tilt would be used for one parameter of my audio buffer, the rate of change of velocity of tilt is changing used for another parameter, and the rate change of acceleration of the tilt used for another parameter.

Ali, Thank you for all your help regarding my last entry.  I have added a bit more to my patch and it is basically working, but not the way in which I want it to.

I would like to be to have 8 different samples to work from. Using the mrmr interface builder I made an interface with 16 buttons and 2 sliders.  8 of these buttons would ideally record one of 8 10 sec samples.  The other 8 would then play them back looping them until I asked it to stop. One slider will be pitch and the other will be speed of the current sample that I have active on my ipod.

As of now I am able to switch between the 8 record buttons,and I am getting recorded sound back.  However,  I am not able to play the selected samples with the play buttons.  I added a bang to the route....play button, but for some reason when I activate the buttons on my pod it doesn't produce a bang in max, though it works for the route....record.   Again thx for all your help.

I've been having a lot of trouble getting my wiimote paired with my computer via Bluetooth.  Every time I try to connect it, Bluetooth Setup Assistant says I need to enter the passkey, but the window in which I'm supposed to enter the stupid passkey doesn't open!  I'm beginning to hate it.  Any tips on how I might clear what should have been a really low hurdle?

arduino as usb adaptor

Hi Ali,

The heart rate hand-grips finally came, but as expected, the heart rate receiver's output cable has a custom plug on the end, so it's incompatible with a computer unless I purchase the vernier usb adapter.

I'm reluctant to order the accessory because of time, budget, and principle.

My plan was to hack the receiver cable with the arduino, so that the arduino serves as the usb adapter.
But is this possible? If so, given my inexperience with this stuff, is this realistic?

First.  I can't get the patch to play back
 anything that it is recording.

Second.  I looked at the math from the video looping/delay patch and tried to incorporate it into this 
patch....the numbers have to change though depending on the amount of delay/length of recording, which I want to be able to control with an ipod.

Third and most complicated.  I do not know how
 to save the recordings that I have in order to play multiple recordings back .

once I figure that out I need to decide  how to hook up the ipod
 and what application of MAWMR to use in order to control the recorded material.

Ideally I would like the ipod to
 control when I start and stop recording.  play back and pitch manipulation of the recordings.
