Week 2 Assignment: Cycling 74 Max Tutorials

Now that we've gotten our hands a bit dirty, we're ready to get into the Max tutorials.
The max tutorials come with the MaxMSP installer which we got in class from here.

There are two components:
1. A folder full of tutorial patches; download the zip file to your hard drive, double click on it to unzip it and get the folder.
2. A PDF file that describes all the patches.

Your assignment, due Monday Sep. 17th 2007, is to study Tutorials 1-26. This means, for every tutorial patch, you open the patch with MaxMSP/Jitter, open the PDF file and find the corresponding entry for the patch you're studying, play with the patch, read about the patch in the PDF, if there is anything you don't get, post a comment to this blog entry.

If you can't get the files for whatever reason, you can also find everyting on our class server:

Open the PDF and find the corresponding for what?

I'm assuming you mean entry, but just thought I'd get some clarification.

I downloaded MAX to my computer, but I think there's something wrong with my USB ports. I tried using the iLok and it didn't work. The girl at the crib couldn't let me into the classroom and my Ucard isn't activated. Should I just read through the tutorials? Would it be possible to get into the room early on Monday?

Frankie:
Indeed I meant "the corresponding entry", is not corrected.

Kaythey:
The ID Card/Door situation is hung up cuz the department administrator Shay was away thurs/fri due to a family emergency. I will get on the door/ID/access thing first then when she's back.

However, the university chechout is open on saturdays from 10am to 6pm (hours are indicated at http://checkout.art.umn.edu). Today would be your day to go check out things. Otherwise you should be able to install the Max/MSP/Jitter demo on ANY mac or pc computer you have access to anywhere. Any simple machine is sufficient for the tutorials.

And Early in the room on monday will be possible; come and see me first thing on monday morning, i should be in my office around 9am... But best thing: go and check out a laptop today!

Worse come to worse, if you or anyone else is unable to get a hold of a computer, just give me a call on my cell (510.387.9977) and i'll meet you in Regis and let you into the building....
