deep cycle marine batteries

lots of good info for how deep cycle marine batteries work

http://www.solar-electric.com/deep_cycle_batteries/deep_cycle_battery_faq.htm#Gelled%20electrolyte

we need a 100+amp hour one and a 55 amp hour
also it recommends an AGM (absorbed glass mat) battery as opposed to a gel battery

I think a deep cycle battery could work great for the bikes (less noise, less maintenance, etc.)

But the idea of batteries being more "green" might be debatable. They still plug into walls to get current and don't run on pixie dust.

I moved this post to the *Gren Mech.* category. Feel free to post things like this under that category.

that is certainly true but I think (need to confirm this) that electricity production is less harmful, more efficient than burning gas. however the second part of this should be I think a wind or solar generator to charge the batteries when we are back at HQ
and the coolest would be a generator hub to charge as you pedal
