More Mills

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO?

Create a List:
Old Mill Stacks
Nomad Wall

Location

I think that the Gold Medal Flour Mill presents us with an projection screen in an area that is very busy and visible --
this should be a picture

how high? (coffman)

how high can we project something? I feel like this is a silly question-

but i would be interested in projecting something on coffman at some point. you know how it is supposed to be a gopher face? between the eyes part would be nice.

Urban Exploration

I've always been completely fascinated by deteriorating architecture and infrastructure and was stunned to discover that there are groups around the world who explore such structures. There is a local group called "Action Squad" (which I believe started at the UofM) and they've discovered some pretty interesting spaces. I figured their site could provide some ideas for our class, and lo and behold there are some fascinating structures! (Check them out on this site: http://www.actionsquad.org/ruins.html)

I thought that the Gopher's Munitions Plant was particularly interesting and could provide an interesting backdrop for an art project. http://www.actionsquad.org/ulands.htm

Stacks

Hey,
I was thinking of a place off of University Ave. - near 280.

There are these really tall industrial smoke stacks. I think there are four. I thought it would be really cool to cover these towers with different content. You can see these stacks from University and even as far away as highway 280. Maybe we have a show, and project each performer on a different stack.

Building(s)

All of the mills on 55/Hiawatha, between 42nd St. and 31st St. would be great. They are huge, open and blank. The only problem might be the highway and distracting drivers. Thoughts?

locations

I think the “Love Power” mural looking over the 35W exit ramp on Washington is a location rich with possibilities. During rush hours huge amounts of cars spend time waiting at the streetlight craving something interesting to gaze at.

Also the Country Radio Station billboard on the 10th Ave bridge is just asking for us to project speech-bubble graffiti to comment on the 35W bridge.

I realize 35W could be a touchy subject for some people, but we should keep this topic in mind because it was such a significant event and is a continuing discussion relevant to the community.

Map of Art On Wheels sites

A map of places to consider as sites for performance, projection or action.

This is a "collaborative" map, all participants in the class have been invited and given rights to view and add to the map.
