post from Diane:
Steve Dietz who conceived of the current UnConvention , Zero One, YProductions, and was the founding Director of New Media Initiatives at the Walker Art Center, including Gallery 9 , has launched Northern Lights and the new initiative Art(ists) On the Verge. AoV was made possible with generous funding from the Jerome Foundation and the support of Forecast Public Art as the fiscal agent.
The call for submissions is here.
I talked with Steve about the working definition of emerging artist: "Regarding emerging status, the primary criterion is exhibition history. If you've had two solo exhibitions outside of the Twin Cities, it's highly unlikely that you would be eligible." Steve encourages artists to contact him with any questions.
Steve describes Northern Lights as "a nomadic, collaborative, interactive media-oriented, art agency for and from the Twin Cities. It presents innovative art in the public sphere, both physical and virtual, focusing on artists creatively using technology, both old and new, to engender new relations between audience and artwork and more broadly between citizenry and their built environment. Northern Lights supports global and local artists working particularly at the intersection of disciplines to freely create new work that excites the senses, explores ideas that matter, and re-imagines ways of energetic engagement among artists, institutions, sites, and audiences."
