Historic Preservation

Madeline Douglass wrote to Maw@umn.edu...

"Preservation month is both a local and national event that highlights
both endangered historic buildings and historic buildings that have been
saved and reused.

The project would involve projections of images and text on vacant
endangered historic buildings.

The buildings could include, the Bardwell-Ferrant house at 2500 Portland,
the Pauline Fjelde house at 3009 Park, and the Valspar Corporate headquarters
building at 1101 South Third Street."

Anybody interested in spear-heading this?

see similar project here.

i definitely want to be involved with this, maybe not spearheading but colabing with other ferocious minds!!

I'm down.. I love the preservation aspect and also being able to transform something seen as vacant and dead space into something beautiful and meaningful... Another example close to campus is Florence Court on 10th and University.. this area is known as an artist community with many local artists and musician living in the historic buildings.. the city is planning a huge development project that will ruin the integrity of the space and demolish historic buildings!! From their facebook page, Here
"For those not familiar with Florence Court, it is a one of a kind historic landmark in Southeast Minneapolis. It is home to a small, yet diverse community of working professionals, students, and artists. This unique and beautiful environment where a community has thrived for decades is in immediate danger of destruction due to a proposed redevelopment plan to erect a 182 bed college apartment complex where 5 historic houses stand, and convert a significant portion of the historic courtyard to a paved driveway. The five historic houses will be demolished and/or relocated."
I would love to do some sort of projections with text, possibly involving residents and their stories...
