AMS Roundtable Discussion II
“Career Development- Careers in Science�

Hello Everyone! AMS is proud to present our 2nd Roundtable discussion/ luncheon which will focus on Career Development by highlighting various career options in the sciences. If you are a graduate student and would like to learn more about career opportunities post PhD- YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS EVENT!!! We will be treated to an open discussion led by a panel of former UMN graduate students/ post-docs now working in various fields. Our panel will feature:

L’Aurelle Johnson, Ph.D.- Received her PhD from the University of Michigan in 2005. She then did a postdoc before becoming an Assistant Professor in the Department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology here at the University of Minnesota.

Shana Sturla, Ph.D.- Received her doctorate from MIT in 2001. She went on to do a traditional postdoc and is now currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Chemistry here at the University of Minnesota.

Deb Winters, Ph.D.- Deb received her PhD from the BMBB department in 2008. She is currently working as a Science Advisor for a Twin Cities Law Firm.

Niko Tsatsos, Ph.D. – Niko graduated from the BMBB department in 2007. After receiving his degree he did a short postdoc on the St. Paul campus before taking up his current post as a Sr. Development Scientist at Beckman Coulter working on chemistry assay development.

Matt Smith, M.S. – Matt graduated from the BMBB department in 2008. He currently works for Access Genetics in Eden Prairie, developing molecular biology tools for clinical use.

It has come to our attention that MiCAB will be hosting a very similar Career Development event just a few hours after our scheduled roundtable discussion on Career Development- Tuesday November, 18. We understand that
it will be difficult for anyone to miss that much time from work in a single day. We therefore have rescheduled our Roundtable Luncheon to Tuesday December 2 at 1pm in NHH 4-101.

Many of our members attend the MiCAB seminars, and we work closely with its organizer & AMS member, Lucci Zacchi, - therefore we will postpone our roundtable discussion for a later date and encourage you to attend the
MiCAB Career Development Seminar on Tuesday at 4pm in 450 CCRB.

The two events will compliment each other and are sure to be informative if you are interested in learning more about your career opportunities after graduate school. The AMS event will be more of a personal perspective- as we will have a panel of U of M alumni discussing their field of work.
