Material Culture Studies: Theories and Methodologies. Seminar covers interdisciplinary approaches used for reading three-dimensional objects as symbolic material. Topics include: Marxist materialism; phenomenology and pragmatism; fetishism, primitivism, and anthropology; the semiotics of money; writing a “biography of things�; and the artistic models posed by still life and sculpture.
