One sailor died, and four others are missing after large waves swept them overboard from their yacht, the Coast Guard reported on Sunday.
According to Coast Guard Petty Officer Levi Read, the yacht was competing in a race from San Francisco to the Farallon Islands, but the seas were rough. The waves crashing into the yacht were 10-12 feet high, the Pioneer Press reported.
All the crew members were apparently wearing life jackets and cold weather gear, Fox News said.
The names of the crew members have not yet been released, and there has not been any word on the condition of the remaining survivors, the Pioneer Press reported.
