Sailors injured in storm during race

The U.S. Coast Guard was sent to rescue four sailors who were injured off the coast of California in a race.

The sailors were injured in a storm about 400 miles off the California coast. A spokesperson for the team told the Pioneer Press that a large wave swept away their steering mounting and some communications equipment.

ABC News reported that wind gusts during the storm measured up to 60 knots. Four sailors aboard the ship suffered back, rib, and pelvic injuries.

Race officials told the Associated Press that a container ship has been sent to assist the team. The help is slated to arrive late Sunday.
