RUTTAN HALL -- The renamed home of Applied Economics
On June 18, 2010 President Robert Bruininks advised the Department of Applied Economics that the University of Minnesota Board of Regents approved the following dedication:
"To re-name the Classroom Office Building on the St. Paul Campus "Ruttan Hall" in recognition of the seminal contributions of the late Regents Professor Vernon Ruttan in addressing agricultural and economic development issues."
On Friday June 18, 2010 Marilyn Ruttan was presented with the framed letter from President Bruininks and a copy of the application dossier, which included outstanding letters of support from Kenneth Arrow, Anne Krueger, Michael Martin, Richard Nelson, Al Levine and other University of Minnesota personnel.
We are thrilled at this recognition of Vernon Ruttan, and also the recognition of the entire department for its historical excellence in agricultural and economic development. There are significant plans underway to celebrate this milestone and extend this legacy into the future. Please reserve Monday October 18, 2010 for the official unveiling of Ruttan Hall.
