The faculty of Applied Economics is delighted to invite you to a very special occasion. On October 18th we will recognize Dr. Ruben Echeverria, an alumnus of Applied Economics, for achieving the University of Minnesota Distinguished Leadership Award for Internationals (DLAI). This award is the highest University honor for international alumni who have attained unusual distinction as professionals in their careers within institutions or in public service and have demonstrated sustained outstanding achievement or leadership. Dr. Echeverria has clearly done this as he has tirelessly worked on the economics of agricultural development throughout his career and has recently been named as Director General of CIAT (International Center for Tropical Agriculture), a division of the CGIAR. Please join us for an afternoon mini-symposium and award ceremony in recognition of Dr. Echeverria's outstanding accomplishments.
Dr. Echeverria was a doctoral student advised by Regents Professor Vernon Ruttan. So, it's entirely fitting that we will be able not only to recognize Vernon's living legacy of scholarly excellence manifested by Dr. Echevarria, but will also dedicate the newly renamed Classroom Office Building as Ruttan Hall. The dedication ceremony of Ruttan Hall will immediately follow Dr. Echeverria's DLAI award ceremony. Please join us at Ruttan Hall as we recognize Dr. Ruttan's enormous contributions to "Inducing Development Through Scholarship - Sustainably Feeding the World for Future Generations" the theme of our day's festivities.
Finally, this will also mark the beginning of our centennial year of the Applied Economics Department with many more events to follow. Please join us for what promises to be a fantastic celebration of the past, present and future of Applied Economics and Ruttan Hall.
