Just Dance

Dance has always been my passion. I have been a dancer for the past ten years. I love every aspect of dancing; from choreographing routines to competing against other teams. Coming to UMR I was disappointed that I would not have the opportunity to join a dance team. Therefore, I decided to start my own team.

I talked to others who I knew also had an interest in dance and they agreed that UMR definitely needed a dance team. Nicole also has an interest in dance and cheer, and mentioned that there was an open dance/cheer team for college students at the Rochester Athletic Club. This quickly got my attention. I talked with my peers and decided that this would be a great opportunity to stay involved in dance. Also, since it was already organized there was less work for me! We currently have a meeting scheduled to talk about how this team will be run and what kinds of moves we will do. This will be a great opportunity for college students to share their passions for dance and cheer, as well as make many new friends.

Ellie's Birthday Surprise

My boyfriend, Tony, and I have a male pit bull named Bronx. Bronx is a year and a half. We had been looking for a friend for Bronx for quite some time because he seemed lonely. We wanted a female who was fairly young so that we could train her correctly. We also wanted her to get along well with Bronx. We looked on many different websites and in the Post Bulletin as well. After several months of looking, it seemed that we just wouldn't find the perfect puppy.

On Monday, May 24th, 2010, I celebrated my 19th birthday. I came home from work just as any other day, only Tony was not home. I tried to reach him and he said he was with one of his friends. I had a weird feeling that something was up. I waited for a few hours, and sure enough, Tony sent me a picture of a little puppy! About an hour later, he was home with her. She was a tiny little thing, just six weeks old. She was almost the exact same color as Bronx. She and Bronx got along right away. We had a hard time naming her though, so she was nameless for a few days. We wanted to find the perfect name. We finally ended up picking Mya.

Due to my obvious excitement, the admissions office staff had been hearing a lot about Mya. They were all very excited for me and wanted to see her. So, one day a few weeks after getting Mya, Tony decided to surprise me at work, by bringing her in. Everyone stopped what they were doing for about a whole half an hour, to play with Mya. She ran around the admissions office and greeted everyone. It was a great break in the day for everyone and a wonderful surprise for me as well!
