Last semester, UMR students gathered at the YMCA on Tuesday nights to play intramural volleyball. There were a total of eight teams, ranging in ages from freshman to seniors. All you needed to play was six people, male or female and a good attitude. I am part of the team called the Volley Llamas (clever name, right?). The Volley Llamas were out for revenge this past season after being defeated in the championship game last year.
The Volley Llamas came out spitting and won every match but one during the regular season. Then, it was time for tournament play. We needed to bring our A game because we were the third seed and had some tough competition ahead. Luckily, we played our llama hearts out and ended up making it to the championship game where we faced an undefeated freshman team. Being upperclassmen, we tried to use that as our intimidation factor and I think it worked. We ended up winning the championship game! Woohoo!
The UMR staff and faculty heard about how entertaining volley ball was and challenged us to a game! We played against a team of professors, staff members, and even the chancellor. They actually had more talent than I expected and it was a competitive game. The chancellor was even diving on the floor at some points, now that's dedication. It was all in good fun and the Volley Llamas did pull away with the victory!
I just want to thank all of the students who put teams together to play volleyball! It was a great way to get some activity and spend time with friends. Also, a big thank you to the staff and faculty who came out to play, it was so much fun! I would also like to send a shout out to my fellow Volley Llamas (Kristi, Jayden, Emily, Kara, Mikayla, and Alex) and let's get ready to dominate another season!
