the class as a whole

well this class is over. and well it went more smoothly then i had imagined. i was real nervous for it. i have definitely been putting it off. i must admitt i have had fun. it wasnt as scary as i had thought it would be. i guess i just had to get past the whole "computer thing", man i get twitchy just saying it. they really are not my friend. they freeze on me. dont do what i want them to do. and worst of all you just cant get around without using them, they are pretty much taking over. even the art scene. i mean you can see example of it all over the place. from target to ipod to random ads in magazines or poster. EVERYWHERE. and that has made me a bit freaked out.
so i guess it was fine time i face this digital word.

rafael lozano-hemmer

the artist that caught my interest is rafael lozano-hemmer. rafael was born in mexico City in 1967. in 1989 he got a B.Sc. in Physical Chemistry at Concordia University in Canada.

in our text, Digital Art rafael is mentioned in the chapter, "Digital Technologies as a Medium." his work combines existing structure with a projected animated images. i think that the combination of these two different mediums is very interesting. i can only imagine there is a lot of preparation and planning that goes through his process. his working process is quite intense and goes through many steps to get to his final product.

this project has been very fun for me to work on. it is nice to be able to go back and look over all my photos of greece. the only bad thing is it makes me miss it even more. i started out a little confused as to what to do with this project. it was very open-ended and wasnt sure where to take it. but after a while we decided to interview eve browning. she went with on our trip to greece and is very smart. she knows a lot about mythology. it was great to have her explain it to us.

first couple projects

i really enjoyed our first projects. i thought it was very interesting to see all the style differences throughout the class in the self project. i thought everybody had a very distinct individual style. it was also neat to see how we all approached the narrative project and incorporated our styles into it. there was such a wide range....

princess and the pea

i really had no idea what fairytale to use at first. i tried to think of one my mom read to me when i was younger but came up with nothing.
after giving up on that idea, i remembered that i had always like the story of the princess and the pea when they read it to us in gradeschool. they image of the princess laying in a bed of like 80 different layers always stuck in my head. i think the picture are always powerful. especially as a kid. so.....

for my narrative project i decided to use the princess and the pea for my fairytale. i am a collector and really enjoy old used stuff. anything and everything. my mom is also a keeper, we dont like to throw away anything that could possibly come in handy. so for this project it was great that my mom had kept her wedding shower wraping paper. so i used the paper from the 70 and then old photographs. creating a style within photoshop

self portrait

starting this project i had a few ideas of what i thought i wanted to do. in the end i decided to work woth some of my photography. i like to use a lot of images in my work. i think ultimately my project shows many sides to my life.

i dont think there is one way to define who i am. my life is made up many moments, some happy some sad and some painful. i combined thses images with images of everyday things i go through in a day. or places of peace. there are many emotions shown in the lower images.

all the photography is mine. over the smaller images i placed a larger image over it. the top image acts in a way as a means to hide the under images. i believe everyone tends to hide certain feelings from time to time. as a way of protecting themselves. i guess this is what i was doing. i guess.
