Uncharted 2: Playing a Movie [Reflections] : Divide By Zero

I am about 90% done with Uncharted 2, in fact I should be done by tonight. I couldn't help but talk about this game even before I finish it because there are a few things I want to say.

The first is that every other game with a story needs to learn from this game because this is the first game in a long time (along with Arkham Asylum) that I can play for 4 hours straight and still want to keep playing. My roommate stayed up until 6am playing this game to get to the end.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was a really great game but the story was really what kept it going along with the excellent platforming. Uncharted 2 takes everything that was good about the first game, multiplies it by 5 and then adds crack cocaine to it. I seriously can't think of anything wrong with this game. It has an amazing story, incredibly fun and challenging gameplay (you will die), excellent graphics, fantastic voice acting, and surprisingly fun multiplayer. There were moments in the game where I couldn't believe that it was even possible to do.

Speaking about voice acting, Nolan North (Nathan Drake) and Emily Rose (Elena) do a fantastic job at making you love the characters. You want to keep playing because you want to know what happens next. It's like an addicting book in video game form. The story is paced perfectly, the villain is actually scary, and there is plenty of intrigue and romance that I think is much better than most movies today.

One thing about me is that I hate dying in games… yes, I am a baby but I like to enjoy the story continuously without being interrupted by things like death. The thing about the first Uncharted was that I could only play a few firefights and then quit because I'd die so often, even though I was on Normal. In Uncharted 2, I chose Very Easy so I could get through the game and hear the story. That said, I still heavily enjoyed Uncharted 1 even though I kept dying because it was a lot of fun.

Games like Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, where I die every second are no fun to me because there's no reward for living other than to go on and fight and die more often. In games like Batman, Uncharted, BioShock, and Half-Life 2, when you die you want to keep going because there's a new narrative waiting to be told or a discovery to be made. I think that a part of what makes the firefights fun in Uncharted 1/2 is that there's a goal at the end, a place to get to, or a secret to be found. In other words, give me a reason to fight these people and then I won't quit the game.

I will be writing soon about this year in games because quite frankly it was an excellent year for gaming… and still could be even more excellent considering the upcoming releases of Assassin's Creed 2, Dragon Age: Origins, and Left 4 Dead 2.

Awesome review, the game is brilliant, it's a stunning game visually and the gameplay is great. Even the multi-player which made me suspicious at first is well put together and a joy to play.

great review, to tell the truth I'm a big fan of the first game so even if this one was a carp version i would totally buy it...but Naughty Dog never fails so i guess this second installment it's just as awesome or even better than the first one.

Uncharted 2 is an awesome game. I am with you about it being like a book in game form. I have always favored RPG type games. Its more of an experience and its much more entertaining than games without a storyline.

I also hate dying when playing video games, however after I've beaten the game I always look back and say, that game was awesome...because it was so challenging. Also, difficult games add a lot of play time to a game which makes me feel like I got as much value out of the game as possible. Rather than those games that take no more than 10 hours game time to beat.

I just started it and its engrosssing. Im in the 2nd scene right now and I can't stop playing well I have to go to duty so I can't play non-stop. but it was worth buying a PS3 just for this. Best game I've played on it yet.

I find dying in games to be one of the "better parts" - it allows for more replay value. Games that are to easy get beaten quick and covered in dust on your game shelf.

Uncharted 2 was great and I was immersed in the world it created. I distinctly remember being blown away by the paper-folding in the cut scenes and by the whole train scene. Even things like emotions were conveyed well on the character's faces.

One of the most immersive games I've played. I was blown away by the map folding and character interactions. The gameplay was sometimes a little slow (puzzles), but the action scenes were great. I also wasn't a fan of the very end.

Along with the general atmosphere of the game, I totally agree that the story alone make it a good game. It's also in my opinion a sufficient reason to buy a PS3 over a 360

I was turned onto Uncharted 2 long after it was released, after trying to find a game that would satisfy me as much as Fallout 2 did. I am glad I did though -- excellent game and storyline, and very good twist at the end.

In my opinion it's the best game of this console generation, not of all time but it's in my top 3. Great graphics, a fantastic story line, and the game play is good the only thing that would make it better is if there were better guns.

Me and a buddy played through Uncharted recently and loved it...I'll have to go get Uncharted 2. BTW, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2's director just got hired to director a full-length motion picture. That game's story line was superb and highly recommended.

This game isn't ten but 9.5 is still an understatement. 9.8, I only had one problem with this game. The climbing was to linear.
Still. I've played this game's campaign more than 20 times. (thats a fact) Actually this game deserves ten.

I beat the stealth mission on hard on my first try. You dont need a game to hold your hand the whole time just figure it out. I even beat it on crushing on my first try and it was much harder because enemies were more alert.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was, and still is a great game! As you pointed out, the story line is what makes it so compelling. I felt the same way about the Freespace franchise and was very sad to see it go.
