Final Project: The Finn Who Would Not Take A Sauna

For my final project, I took a slight turn from my proposal. Instead of animating an audio clip from Car Talk radio, I decided to use a poem my grandma suggested to me called "The Finn Who Would Not Take A Sauna." I decided to do an animation because I had never done one before, even though I was encouraged to steer clear. Because of the time consuming process of animation, I only used the begining segment of the narrative. I was kind of dissapointed I would not have enough time to do more animation, because there is so much more to the story. With this, I tried to conclude the segment as best as I could without leaving it open ended. I have to say that it did not turn out the way I pictured it, but I think that this is the best I could do in the time that was given.

As I said in class I really liked this video since the poem is about the Iron Range and Finnish people. I think using your grandma as the person reading the poem was a good choice because I felt it fit very well. I think that the animations that you did for the poem were well done. Overall I think you did a good job on the project.

I agree with some of the comments that were already stated in class. I think the ended didn't really resolve itself and felt unfinished as a result of not taking enough time with the video. It was more odd too b/c of the fact that the rest of the video seemed as though there was a lot of time spent in it. Moreover, the narrator had the best voice and use of language I think that we have heard so far.

I liked the style of animation you used, the style of the narration and the images gave it a children's book type feel. I agree with what people were saying about the ending, it seemed unresolved and abrupt, I understand time restraints and all, but because it felt very inconclusive.

I thought this video was for the most part very well done and looks as though it took quite a bit of time. I've never attempted animation like this so I don't know what kind of work it really entails. Although it did seem like the end was kind of rushed compared to the quality of the first few scenes, it still came across well. I really liked the sound of your grandmas voice too, it was pleasant to listen to.

I thought that this video was very well done. The story being told was a great one and the animation backed up the great story. The only problem that I have with it is what I stated in class, the ending just seems to abrupt. However with our time constraints and how much more you would have to animate, I understand why you chose to cut it off and that was prabably the best place for it. Overall a great story and great animation!
