#2: Blogs

I think I may have missed the entry for week 2. I was so enthralled with creating my blog. Anyhow, I think this has been an awesome course. Thank you!

#11 Wrap Up

My favorite part of the course was creating the blog and the UM connect meeting. I think this program is an excellent resource for U employees. I really, really hope that the course remains on-line so that I can refer back to it when I am using this technology in the future. I would definitely participate in another course like this in the future. I really thought it was very well done. Concise and to the point and I really appreciate this with my busy schedule.

Great Stuff!

#10: Web Conferencing

Wow, That was easy! I can't believe how easy it was. I have been invited to a UM connect meeting, and this is one of the most useful, if not the most useful tool I have learned about yet. It is great and opens great new avenues to leader trainings, especially since it can be recorded.

#9: Communication

My exposure to Instant Messaging has been somewhat negative. I have seen it be an interruption to the work of others and decrease productivity. I guess my age shows when I say, why not just send an email. Then I would have documentation of this as well. I haven't yet wrapped my head around a use for UChat that can't be done otherwise, and I think that chatting is often a large time consumer and waster.

#8: Social Networking

I have already found out that if I talk to the right youth, they will talk to their friends on IM, facebook, whatever site they are connected on, and that can make a program happen. This was the case with the state fair reunion. The youth that I work to educate have these social networks, and they can be the best source of promotion.

#7: Productivity Tools

So maybe those old secretary's minutes that are saved on my computer and I can't open with any of my programs are not lost forever after all. The only challenge in uncoding them might be remembering the site name to go to: Zamzar. Also, the meeting place and location planner... I think I have used one of these before and they are NICE! again remembering the name will be a challenge: Doodle. Why call it doodle?

I think that the word document in Zoho could be very useful. I think it will do about the same as a wiki, only it seems much easier to use. I created my own account and started a document. It would be an easy place to create an agenda for a regional training or youth event where all can edit and have input.

#6: Wikis

I think the with all the regional work happening in Extension, that Wiki's are a very useful tool. As with all technology, it takes a bit of time at first to become acquainted with them an how they work and how to edit. But after that it can be a real time and effore saver!

Wow, I am amazed at all the photos you can find on-line. I toured Flickr, but wonder about the pros and cons of using Flickr vs. Snapfish which is the site my cousin uses. I think I will forgo the Flickr account until I explore the 2 a bit more.

#3: RSS & Feedreaders

Well, I signed up for a couple feeds and will see how this works in the next few days. I am really finding as I go through this course that I am not a technology native. I must be getting older. It takes me a little bit longer to figure these things out. That is why I am looking forward to learning more. I also thought this weekend about how a blog and these tools may be used to enhance our county 4-H program. I will have to keep practicing to get good at this.
