This large selling put "The Hunger Games" into the third place debut in the history of the North American box office, CNN said.
The midnight showing sold $19.7 million, which was the seventh biggest midnight showing in history, Fox News said.
"The Hunger Games" film was produced by Lionsgate, and is easily the biggest film in their history, according to Fox News.
