384 prisoners escape Pakistan prison after Taliban raid

384 prisoners from a northern Pakistan prison escaped early Sunday morning after the compound was raided by hundreds of Taliban militants, CNN said.

21 of the escapees were high-profile militants, the attackers were planning on freeing a Taliban commander Iftikhar Hussain, the information minister of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province where the prison is located, said, according to CNN.

"We attacked the Bannu prison and got our special members freed," Ehsanullah Ehsan, a Taliban spokesman, told Agence France-Presse, according to BBC News.
