Them I was hoping that at my site I would be comfortable and enjoy myself, while helping others. Then I didn't know what type of things that I was going to be doing. I just knew it was liek an Basketball league. And AI was saying to myself " I swear I bet not be taking score for the games. But when I started going I noticed that i was not. I was doing other things. That made me happy once I got there and noticed I was doing something other than taking "score". Ummmm.... that is about it!!!!

I mean it has connected with the things we were doing earlier in the semester when we talked about service and the different meanings that people have. This service that I am doing is very different than what I have been doing in the past. In the past I have been doing service where I would go to the place and be told what to do. I would usually be doing tutoring and other things related to helping some children. This service at project take back well sometimes they give me some things and I would have to format it myself. Its different, but I enjoy doing it. And I go to the games that they have and I am going to start volunteering, most likely I will be doing coat check or something of that sort.

This to me relates to North Minneapolis because poverty is major there and it seems as if there are programs out there to address the issue, but the people either don't have the neccessary resources, funding, credit, or just don qualify for these programs. I really haven't found any sources yet, but is you have any ideas on different programs that you know of please feel free to inform me. So I can do some research. It would be major help to me :-)

I'm to shy and not a people person. Or should I say i'm just a person who hates getting rejected if someone doesn't want to take my interview. But I knew I had to get over it someday cause I knew what I was getting into before I started this course. But thenI didn't start at my site and I still haven't. I'm very excited though. I tried my best but I just couldn't do it. It's like I was throwing things in my paper that don't sound right and don't tie connections. But it's not like it's just with this paper. It's with every paper that I have ever had that I had to compare and contrast books. With this paper I think it was mainly because I was doing so much and trying to get this paper done on time, but yet not knowing what steps to take and my understanding in both books were unclear is what messed me up. I know I need to ask more questions about a situation for now on. When we talk I only respond to those that I understand, aned don't ask questions to the ones I don't. So I ran into a big problem with doing this paper.

When reading Urban Injustice my underatanding is that it see's the neighborhoods of the ghettos violent and and not a way of living. They explain it as where poor people who arfe in socitey placed as the "lower class". As in the reading Overcoming it showed the "ghetto" as being a sense of community. Where it's a place where everything thats needed is there, even though it sill was violence. In Urban Injustice they explain there there were no good jobs in the ghetto. It was only minimum wage paying jobs, that couldn't support a family. In Overcoming they explained that there were doctors, business men, people who had paying jobs living in that community. In Urban Injustice they referred ghetto's to being poor, but vertically integrated.

Sorry, but this blog may not be so good. I am going to try and remember the stories. As I write maybe they will come back to mind.

With the hell hole and the Jewish community I saw some differences. As I read the Jewish community to me I seen more like a put together community. From my way of seeing it they moved from the area where they were at and then started to formm their community by some park (I forgot the name). With the hell hole it was more as they didn't move from the area where they were at, they just did what they could to make it. With the hell hole they had everything they felt they need in one area. A doctors office where I believed they treated alot prostitutes, a store that had everything you needed, and people who were in that neighborhood knew eachother. With the Jewish community they had the same, but they moved because of the violence. Violence was and still is very high around them neighborhoods. Sorry you said 30 seconds and I have nothing else to say in 30 seconds. I'll try to go back and edit this. I really need to review.

The two sites that I chose to do my community service was the Peace foundation, and the place where you do the tutoring. I chose to do the turoring community service because of my past experience. All my life I have attended MPS schools. Where the education wasn't the best, but it was what they could give us with the resources they had. I feel that with education you gain knowledge. And through education you can help others and help your society. I also feel that with teaching our children will better you future, because as they all say I am your future leader and they are my future leaders. I want to feel like I am apart of a team that is trying to make a dfiierence and trying to help what people look at a disaster. I have been tutoring for sometime now, and I feel that I am making a diffenence even if its with one person. That person will someday help another and then the learning goes on. The problem that I see is me fitting into a new environment and being prepared for what comes to play.

The Power Equation In "Service"

"To me, community service is an issue of servanthood. Being a servant is the only way for me to really make any important differences in the lives of people." (42)
- A first-year student

When I read this quote I thought wow. I really felt that the person who quoted this must have never really did community service. At the same time I was hoping that they will someday do so. Community Service is not all about you teaching something to the people you are working with or the community you are helping. But on your part you are learning in the process. To me doing community service to helps others is an great idea. But it also is about learning and bettering yourself as a person, learning about different cultures, and maybe even finding out what kind of career you want to persue. When reading that quote I said to myself "This person must have never did community service. In my mind who ever does community service it will benefit both the server and servee. The reading was right when it stated "You will limit your opportunites if you do not realize that you, too, will gain in tangible ways from community service." (42)
