Bringing Back a Bee Friendly World
The Bee Squad is an initiative of U of MN's Bee Lab.
Welcome to the wonderful world of bees!
Bees fascinate and inspire people, young and old. Bees improve our health and nutrition because they are the world's most important pollinator of fruits and vegetables. Healthy bee populations are paramount to sustainable agricultural practices making fruits sweeter and increasing crop yields through proper pollination. In addition, ecosystem services such as clean water and clean air that a healthy environment provides would not be possible without bees, as they are the means through which flowering plants reproduce.
Bees are vital to our lives. Bee health is failing. Bees need our help.
The Bee Squad program is designed to help people help bees by providing hands-on guidance to beekeepers and assisting bee supporters in the Twin Cities area foster healthy bee populations and pollinator landscapes. This community-based project brings people from different economic, religious, political, and ethnic backgrounds together, united by the importance of bees to our ecosystems and agricultural systems.
Bees need a diversity of flowers to support their nutrition and a clean environment, relatively free of pesticide contamination to support their overall health. A world that is good for bees is also good for wildlife, agricultural systems, and people. By educating participants and the broader public about the important role bees play in our lives and some simple steps everyone can take to create a bee friendly world, the Bee Squad promotes environmental stewardship and sustainable agricultural and cultural systems.
Bee a part of the Future!
