The Maori people of New Zealand, like indigenous peoples around the world, respect their lands by practicing sustainable agriculture, ensuring the survival of resources for the next generation. This viewpoint of the environment has historically conflicted with Europeans living in New Zealand. This Global Seminar will focus on identifying, defining, and solving issues related to the diverse environmental philosophies within Maori culture and that of descendants of European colonialists. You will explore the implications of land rights and uses, environmental sustainability, and the diverse perspectives and cultures of two very different societies. You will be immersed in Maori culture: learning about Maori agriculture, land uses, and visiting Maori sites of significance.
