Thriller-Michael Jackson

For some reason I just can't help but think to myself how much irony is in the first part of this music video. I'm talking about the point in time where MJ starts freaking out and changing into some kind of monster. Try to tell me that's not ironic considering the "changes" he started going through eight years after this video was released. I'm not saying he turned into any kind of werewolf like in the video or anything, but I mean, appearance and personality-wise, I think we could call it something within those general lines.
Michael was diagnosed with vitiligo and lupus in the late 80's. The vitiligo lightened his skin and treatments just lightened it more. When it comes to this, I feel bad for him. That's not his fault. But it's when it comes to the plastic surgeries that he claimed never happened that just really made him someone who wasn't so great to look at anymore. He went through a ton of nose surgeries, a forehead lift, thinned lips, and cheekbone surgery. Didn't his mother ever teach him the phrase "less is more"? I'm not saying to judge a book by its cover or anything; I'm just saying there's a point where people may start to fear the "fake" in someone.
Like I said before, his personality transformed into something a little scary also. He was accused of molesting three boys but somehow was never convicted of crime. Oh, and how can anyone in their right mind end up holding their baby off of a fourth floor balcony? I'm not sure if everyone would agree, but personally I think that a sexual predator or someone who would dangle me off of a balcony is just as scary as a werewolf.
Michael Jackson will always be someone to remember whether it's for his catchy songs or his unnatural and somewhat creepy changes. Personally, I'll never get that image of him mutating into a werewolf out of my head.

Hit Me Baby One More Time----Britney Spears

Britney Spears' Hit Me Baby One More Time was and still is a great representation of teenage life. It shows that teens can't wait for the school day to be over, girls wearing tight and revealing clothes, and lots of mingling with the opposite sex. It's very true that times have changed. The image of popularity and figure that teens, particularly teen girls have to go through in high school is OUTRAGOUS. Why has this change evolved? Well there are multiple reasons like media, change of fashion, music and image. Teenage girls are so heavily influenced by their dressing, likes/dislikes and how they should act. One thing that has still carried on form one generation to the next is that girls still try to impress boys and their fellow peers in whatever ways they can.
I mean what is the world is coming to when some girls spend more time trying to find the hottest outfit to wear or get their makeup right instead of trying to succeed in school. The evolution of girls and their particular obsession with fitting into the expectations of society is a feeling that will continue to grow. The media has by far been the most influential force driving the way teen girls see themselves. In Brittany Spear's video as in many of her other videos and many of her other videos, she has a very slim and shaped body and usually ends up getting what she wants. Whether it is the guy or the attention! When girls see images like this, the first thing that comes to their mind is that they want to look like that so they can get the same attention. Even if it means starving, changing their dressing or being someone they're not. The funny thing they fail to realize is if change is even worth it, if there is no guarantee to gain this so called "ATTENTION".

Fuck Tha Police-N.W.A.

Watching "Fuck tha Police" by N.W.A. really got me thinking about a rap artist's inspiration to write their songs. This song by N.W.A. was a case of an artist appealing to social injustices that was happening in their city. This song was a direct response to the Rodney King incident and outlined an animosity between young black men and the police. However, times have changed a lot since the late 80's and early 90's. Race is generally not as big of an issue in today's society. Because of this, the gangsta rap group N.W.A. eventually disbanded and moved on to other things in their career. Ice Cube, for example, went on to become an actor and star in family comedy movies such as Are We There Yet? He simply did not have the same anger and passion to continue with his gangsta rap. Eminem is a rap artist from Detroit. A large majority of his songs are filled with anger that resulted from his childhood in the dangerous 8 Mile neighborhood. It is completely understandable for him to carry anger from his early life with problems such as his mother, his ex-wife, and his haters. One thing that does not make any sense is how Eminem continues to display such emotion while having a net worth of $120 million. During his current appearances, he still continues to carry that bad boy persona as if the entire world were against him. He differs greatly from Ice Cube in this perspective. I just do not understand how Eminem is able to keep his anger while living the life that most people can only dream of. He isn't the poor, white kid from Detroit anymore. I know that if I had that much money and success from doing what I loved, I would be the happiest man on the planet. I suppose Eminem really is the epitome of the phrase "Money can't buy happiness."

Baby One More Time

Is Taylor Swift the reinvented Britney? Taylor's "good girl" persona and glitzy, feminine attire are arguably inspired by Britney's schoolgirl look that makes scholarly and down-to-earth sexy and fashionable. But what makes both of these pop princesses so likeable? From Taylor's mushy boyfriend-bashing songs and her love sick melodies that scream "pick me!" to Britney's "...Baby One More Time" that desperately begs for a second chance with an old flame, I get the feeling that both of these pop divas found their fame through their mutual obsession with boys. But who is to blame Taylor for wanting Britney's success? Who doesn't dream about singing in front of thousands of young screaming girls begging to kiss the ground you walk on? Britney must have done something right to inspire another young blonde to sing about how much us girls love and hate boys depending upon the day. Britney did three very specific things right: she stuck to one fashion style, sang about things many age groups of girls can relate to, and made a melody that would cause any girl, or guy, to sing into their hairbrush with no shame in the privacy of their own shower. Britney's style was her own idea, and was clearly a good idea because I know I wore a plaid, pleated mini skirt to my first day of the sixth grade, but only because the red jumpsuit from "Oops!...I did it again" was sold out at Target. Almost all of Britney's songs involve boys one way or another, and this topic is relatable to a seven-year-old girl whose crush only shows his affection by stealing her Play-Doh, and the eighteen-year-old girl whose boyfriend cheated on her and left. Lastly, Britney's success can be credited to the simplistic, catchy melodies that are the epitome of memorable.

R-Kelly Trapped in the Closet

This video is very successful at presenting the theme of unfaithfulness. It makes me wonder if there are any more faithful people out there. It has become so terrible that some people actually cheat because it appears to be "fun" instead of doing it due to problems in a relationship. People have lost their sense of remorse and morals. I guess this is what happens when you move from one generation to a new one filled with newer innovations and publicity to issues of "sexual enjoyment". The fact that this issue is even being exposed on a music video displays that it has become something that everyone is familiar with. The meaning and purpose of sex had varied amongst many different people, cultures and religion. It's hard to understand why people have unfaithful relationship. There are so MANY REASONS people cheat, like losing interest in the person there with, "accidently" doing it and some people just do it to get revenge.
I think it's pretty fair to say that the rules and standards of being faithful in a relationship have dramatically changed from past generations to our current generation. This video is a perfect example because it displays the action of cheating between two people. In the video it's hard to tell why exactly they cheat on their spouses but it is shown that the only remorse present is due as a result of getting caught verses because of actually engaging in the act.
Even women are stepping out the closet and being unfaithful to their husbands more now than before. Back in the older generations, women use to be the housewives that take care of the house, raise the kids and become secretaries. Now as the strength and independence of woman is increasing, so is their ability to cheat just as men would. Now off course there were some women still cheating in the early decades. However, due to the strict value systems held during those days like the ways a women should dress, behave, and the values that should be instilled in her -the chances are the rates of infidelity were lower then, verses now. Now media, television, and web are make cheating, sex and sexting look popular. As usual everyone wants to be popular and do what is "in". As a result, they too may not see being unfaithful as a big deal because "everyone is doing it" and if everyone is doing it then it must be "right".

In this music video when they went and interrupted people it reminded me of another music video. The music video it reminded me of was "Do It Now Remember It Later" by Sleeping With Sirens. In this music video the members of the band are on the news for disrupting the town. It starts by the news finding out that they are letting a 13 year old drive their van around town. They proceed to do strange things in the music video that the news deems as terrible. They drive with no hands, write the word graffiti on a wall, and eat right before swimming in a lake, so the news shows it all like it's horrible and then the band members end up in the news station and mess first with the sound, and then dance with the weather man, and one lays on the news table acting like a place mat for the coffee cups. And one brings flowers to the female news caster and takes her out. While the male news caster is the only one in the station the band makes the news caption say "nice guys finish last". Though in the end the news casters end up liking the band and their music.

I think that they did a good job with making the music video draw peoples attention, and want to keep watching it.

These two music videos do not really relate to each other too much, but they both have a message. The spice girls message is for girls to act stronger and embrace themselves. While the other music video is telling people to go out and do what they want to be more of rebels than following the rules. So in a way they can be considered related, even though they are very different.

Madonna

Let's be real. Madonna can do anything. She is amazing. That's all there is to it.
If there is one person who knows how to entertain, it is Madonna. Watching her can never get old. While entertaining, she always has something new and amazing up her sleeve, and that's why people love her. She's been one of the most successful woman artists worldwide, selling more than 300 million records, and for all I know she'll probably keep selling more! I feel like whenever she goes under for a while and you don't hear anything new from her, she will randomly come out with another top hit featuring some hot, new pop singer. But again, that's why she's such a great artist and never gets old! Not to say her old songs would ever get old either. Who doesn't like to bust out a little Like a Virgin every now and then?!
Not only is she entertaining, but her looks and style alone amaze me. She can look stunning in anything she wears. Given, some of the outfits she has on every now and then are a bit much, to say the least. But really, don't we all wish we could pull off those outfits she wears like she does? I know my friends and I were not the only little girls that would watch and dance to her music videos, wishing we could be like her.
Madonna isn't just an entertainer and one of the most beautiful women ever. She's gotten herself involved in other things as well. For instance, she has two clothing lines, one of which she started with her daughter. She also has fitness centers around the world and has even directed films. I'm sure she's done much more. Those are just some facts that I have heard about her.
So like I said... Madonna is amazing. End of story.
