Explore through image and text how the built environment affects (supports or detracts) who you are. Speculate in terms of frameworks, clockworks, phenomena and oppositions.
Right now, the combination of the built environment that surrounds my daily life along with the environment that I’ve created for myself is extremely supportive of who I am and what I want to achieve.
The nature of who I am tells me that I want to create a place of retreat where I can settle back from the excitement and creative stir that keeps me moving day to day. This entails that my living phenomena is a twofold framework at the very least.
The framework of my retreat comes in the form of my quiet 1 1/2 storey 1940's era house on the quiet street in the laid back town of Hopkins which all finds itself close enough to the never-ending happenings that make up the Twin Cities metro area.
For me, it’s this kind of opposition of pace that keeps me sane.
It allows me to reflect, to maintain a sense of clarity over my professional, academic, and home life clockworks that make up my daily routine.
Professionally, my built environment is full of creativity and inspiration at every level.
I remember walking into the building the very first time for my interview and being overwhelmed.
It was the environment as a whole and it was all the things that made up the whole that impressed me. It was the fact that it was a brick building along side the river. It was the fact that the building was once an old mattress factory.
The interior of the space was such that it embodied contemporary design and yet embraced the history of the buildings origin. Good design was at work here and I could feel the creativity from the start.
It’s because of that kind of environment that I was convinced to go back to school, to add another thing to my set of frameworks and clockworks that would help me broaden the phenomena of my world of design. My educational framework is set in a routine of my classes and homework that make up this particular clockwork. My routine is filled with the things of books and articles, computers and pencils, vehicles and phones that help me function efficiently inside the phenomena of my ever evolving life.
