Elevator Down 9/26/07

All
I wanted to let you know that I am putting signs on the internal elevators (out for maintenance) with contact information if someone should have special needs on Wednesday.

Floors 2-3 - I've instructed them to contact either the Circ Desk on 2nd or 3rd floor. If a patron should need to take a cart of books or cannot manage stairs, David and Steve have 4th floor elevator keys that will allow them access to the 4th floor via the lobby elevator. Staff should accompany the patron, not give out the key. PLEASE - stress how important it is to be sure to relock the elevator after each use. If you have any questions how to do this, let me know and I will give a demo or check that it is relocked.

Floor 4 - I've noted they can call the Circ Desk (6-5653) for assistance using the phone located near the internal stairway. Again - procedures are the same for locking, etc as above.

Floor 5 - noted lobby elevator as alternative or if a special need to call the Admin Office and we will handle those.

Access Staff - please pass this along to students working the desk so they know what to do. *** I know Steve will be out and David works a later shift, so if you don't know where the keys are or need additional keys, please contact me.

Admin Staff - while I doubt there will be a need, someone should be available to handle for this day.

As always, if you have questions, please call. Or if you see a flaw in this plan - PLEASE speak up and we can redo the signs.

Thanks,
Arlys

M & Ms

Julie Sedlak of Minneapolis Public Library (bio5004 for those of us who have memorized numbers) brought in a bag of M & Ms for us students. She (and her coworkers) appreciate how we are in here all the time and the good work we do.

I couldn't figure out a place to put them for all us to enjoy, so I came up with the idea of putting the bag in my mailbox downstairs. Feel free to grab some when you would like, just make sure to share. (I know, its hard to share chocolate). And thank her if you come across her in the meantime.

close and open comments

Hello!

Just a reminder that the printers downstairs need to be turned off at night so that the 24/7 people do not attempt to print things.

Also, I would like to suggest that the doors on the 2nd floor to the rest of the library from the 24/7 area be kept locked until 7 AM. It hasn't been a problem yet, but I can see later in the year people going through (even if they are kept closed) to use the rest of the library when we are not technically open or even ready for them.

Thanks! ~Tiffanie

Reminder!!

Hi everyone~

I don't know if you've all noticed, but the little swinging doors on the 2nd floor by the desk now have locks on them. Whoever is closing at night, could you please make sure they are locked when you leave? This is to try to prevent theft of reserve materials from the shelves behind the desk. Thanks!

Hope everyone's semester is off to a great start!! :)

While I'm Out....

Hi everyone,

In my absence, David and Steve will be supervising the Circulation Desk.

David Lenander
612-626-3375
d-lena@umn.edu
(or simply turn around on the 2nd floor and check his office!)

and

Steve Llewellyn
6125-7940
llewell@umn.edu
314 Diehl Hall.

The desk schedule can be found on the O: drive on the Circ Desk computers at O:\Access-Services\Circulation\SchedulesStudent Schedule Fall Session 2007.xls. There will probably also be a more up-to-date schedule posted that reflects coverage of striking staff workers' hours.

Good luck & see you soon (I hope)!

Emily
