Turtle Glory at HSL

20080619__080720_turtle1_300.jpgThursday, June 19 was a very exciting day for the Health Sciences Libraries (HSL) -- it was Turtle Derby Day! This is a fund-raiser of the University of Minnesota's Children's Hospital and the proceeds go towards providing extras for the kids that make the stay at the Children's Hospital a bit easier.
The major activity is the turtle races, and turtles are sponsored to run in the race. This year HSL staff managed to raise enough funds to sponsor six turtles ($300.00).They were named: On the Marc (TS sponsored), VetMed Veronica (Vet Med Lib sponsored), Aristurtle (Reference Services sponsored) and Diehl-licious, Diehl With It and QL666.C5 (all sponsored by HSL staff). We are extremely happy to report that Diehl-licious won its initial heat, the semi-final heat and then won GRANDEST TURTLE OF ALL -- it other words, Diehl-licious was the final victor and blue ribbon winner. We are all still dizzy with excitement. (Photo by Richard Marshall, Pioneer Press) ~ Katherine Chew
