Comparing my artists

Both of my artists are installation geared in thier works. They both really want to say something and say it large! Both Toni and Lozano use video and photography in thier work, along with aspects of virtual reality and interactivity.

A difference would be thier themes of work. Toni is more focused on feminst views, where Lozano is not. Lozano is more focused on issues that are "political" or cultural. But, they both are looking to create global awarenesses. They both have won awards for thier outstanding works.

Rafeal Lozano- Hemmer

Rafael Lozano-Hemmer was born in Mexico City in 1967. In 1989 he received a B.Sc. in Physical Chemistry from Concordia University in Montréal, Canada.

He is an Electronic artist, develops large-scale interactive installations in public space, usually deploying new technologies and custom-made physical interfaces. Using robotics, projections, sound, internet and cell-phone links, sensors and other devices, his installations aim to provide "temporary anti-monuments for alien agency". He recieved a B.S. (Physical Chemistry with a minor in Art History) from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer began to rapidly explore the electronic arts.

Basically what he does as an artist, is project things onto buildings in a very radical way. He uses bold type and beautiful imagery. I think his work has great social influences also. He did one project where he established a link between Austria and Mexico, through very oddd historical references. This was interactive also, when people would walk by, it would activate the sensors, and people could interact with the huge projected piece. Which was on a beautiful facade of a castle in Vienna.

Toni Dove

Toni Dove lives and works in New York. Since the early 1990s, she has produced works that redefine the form of the traditional narrative through the use of interactive components. Her installations feature female characters from different eras who are subjected to the economic and technological determinants of their time. Dove's works also offer a feminist rereading of conventions from popular genres such as science fiction and the Gothic novel.

She works primarily in video and installation. Also, she works in photography.
