LeBron James

At the age of 19, LeBron James seems to be one of the hottest young players to in the NBA. After graduating from St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Ohio, he decided to enter the NBA draft. The 6’8” 240 pound rookie established a name for himself in the 2003-2004 season. LeBron is currently ranked 5th in the NBA in points per game with 25.1, 2nd in minutes per game with 41.4, 3rd in steals per game with 2.62, and 11th in assists per game with 6.8. These are some astonishing numbers for a 19 year old, who is playing in the realm of NBA stars. It has been said that that LeBron James is the next Michael Jordan. I do not believe that anyone can compare to MJ, however this young star has proven himself thus far. It will be interesting to see how the future unravels for LeBron.

When you are looking at Lebron the comparisons to MJ are inevitable, but I think it is important seperate out the marketing and media image of these two stars from the actual performance on the court.

Using the hoopsvibe.com players bio I went to Lebron James at http://www.hoopsvibe.com/nba/nba-players/lebron-james-ar21029.html and then went down the list of the other top players in the league. Run your own math but I don't think the results justify the image for Lebron the way they do for MJ.

Let me tell you, I don't watch a lot of basketball and do not follow sports whatsoever. But I was watching a game and he totally amazed me!! I totally agree he's done great for himself and it will be interesting to follow his skyrocketing career.

If not the next MJ, maybe the next KG, who also skipped college ball. James will need to get more boards, and regularly appraoch triple-doubles to truly compare. (KG seems also to have that confident humility that you note in MJ--don't know if James is that kind of person, though).
