Velkommen til min dagbok!

Welcome to my dagbok, here I will record my thoughts, feelings and attitudes on learning Norwegian. My intention is to document my learning, reflecting on which methods work and which don't. I am learning Norwegian on my own, although I recieve the much appreciated guidance and motivation from Louis Janus, the corrdinator for the Less Commonly Taught Languages Project with the Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA) at the University of MN. I have also been studying French for 6 years which is a helpful background to have when learning a new language. Some people might find this blog interesting... Folks learning a language or those already having learned a language may want to bounce off ideas and share opinions on what they've found useful. Please share your thoughts and opinions, correct my mistakes, offer any insight or criticism. My ultimate desire is to be able to go to Norway one day not as a tourist but a traveling explorer of the culture and customs of another land. I would like to be able to chat with the guy at the pub or the woman in the park, sing Norwegian folk songs, and listen to Norsk tales. The question is how? How does a native English speaking American become fluent in a language spoken by so few? And "how" is exactly what I hope to discover...
