Changes to wireless access for campus guests

Campus guests now can use wireless Internet service by logging on to the “UofM Guest” SSID. Guests can use any existing e-mail address to log in to this network.

This service is "best effort," offering no encryption and is limited in bandwidth and capacity. Therefore, presenters, conference attendees, and other official University guests still should use one of the other options for accessing the wireless network on campus. Additional information about other guest access options is at www.umn.edu/wireless/information/access/index.html.

In addition, customers with Service Gateway access may create and manage Guest accounts at no charge. Also, OIT has discontinued the service by which guests can sponsor themselves by purchasing a wireless account with a credit card. Guests should either use the “UofM Guest” SSID or use one of the additional options.

University students, faculty, and staff are reminded that they should log in to the “UofM Secure” network with their Internet ID (X.500) and password to take full advantage of the wireless network. The “UofM Guest” SSID is not designed to support University affiliates.
