Job description for Web Writer

I received this description of a Web writer recently and thought I'd share.

Web Writer will have responsibility for the following:


  • Accountability for all the development of editorial content for all website and online marketing efforts. As part of a cross-functional web team, partner with web team members, catalog and product writers and other leaders in the company to develop content in a collaborative environment.

  • Create product and promotional copy for all website and online marketing efforts including repurposed content and original writing.

  • Ensure editorial content is written and presented in a format that meets web usability standards and is consistent with company information design guidelines and brand image.

  • Collaborate with web team members to enhance website functionality and develop innovative ways to effectively meet customer needs.

  • Actively participate and contribute to web team's creativity, efficiency and accomplishment of broad goals and policies identified by the strategic web team.

  • Exhibit leadership and initiative in maintenance of functional web team and individual projects as directed by team coordinator.

  • the leadership of functional web team and individual projects, schedules and priorities.

  • Perform any other duties essential to web development as directed.

The experienced Web Writer must have the following attributes:


  • At least 2 years of experience with proven web writing and editing skills, including product descriptions and promotional copy.

  • Knowledge of web usability standards and practices.

  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to handle multiple assignments and tasks while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to thrive in a challenging and collaborative work environment.
