Summer Cultural Programs

Summer Cultural Programs is assembling a Student Advisory Committee who will oversee programming and funding decisions for summer 2008, and I'm hoping you will consider spreading the word to students (and your Student Workers) who may be interested.

'Summer Cultural Programs' is an umbrella name for cultural arts programming during the Summer Term. Administered by the Summer Session Office in cooperation with the Department of Concerts and Lectures, this program provides support for the various organizations that sponsor cultural arts events on campus. The centerpiece of the program is the noon concert series held almost daily on Northrop Plaza during Summer Term. Summer Cultural Programs, because of its funding source in Student Services Fees, requires student guidance through this important committee and offers valuable experience for students' resumes.

The time commitment for committee members is quite minimal, 4 or 5 one-hour meetings between November 2007 and April 2008. Responsibilities include advising on programming and budgetary decisions for summer 2008, and preparing a funding request for summer 2009 and 2010 and presenting it to the Student Services Fees Committee.

Interested students are invited to contact Sarah Cook in the Summer Session Office by phone at 612-625-2088 or by email at konk0013@umn.edu. Questions are welcome. The first meeting will be held at a time and location to be determined by participant availability.
