Job Description
The SMART Learning Commons is seeking to hire experienced students (20-25 students) to serve as tutors (SMART Peer Consultants) for accounting, Carlson School related, mathematics, chemistry, physics, food sciences, biology, various foreign languages, statistics, writing, and (applied) economics during the Fall 2008 semester, with the expectation of continuing on in support for Spring 2009. Positions are open at all SMART commons locations: Wilson library, Walter library, and Magrath library.
Qualifications: SMART Consultants must maintain a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average. Additionally, successful completion of the course(s) to be tutored - defined as having earned no lower than a “B� or demonstrated equivalent competency - is required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also essential for this position. Endorsement (a short e-mail or letter) by U of M faculty or instructor is required.
Desirable Additional Qualifications:
• Work-study eligibility
• Successful completion of coursework in the discipline beyond the level to be tutored
• Prior tutoring experience
Duties:
• Assist students through the peer consultation (tutoring) process by:
 establishing a rapport conducive to positive personal and professional interactions
 respecting differences in background, opinion, ability, motivation, and desires
 supporting the student in establishing challenging, yet attainable goals within and beyond the consultation
 maintaining confidentiality of records, student grades, and other protected information
• Attend and actively participate in scheduled training sessions and staff meetings
• Accurately record consultation proceedings and submit required documentation on established schedule
• Assist graduate assistant consultants in preparing for and conducting academic skills development and exam preparation workshops as assigned
• Represent the SMART Learning Commons effectively and positively
• Other duties as assigned
Hours: Flexible schedules, but most consultants work an average of 7 to 12 hours a week.
Salary: $10 per hour. An additional stipend will be paid for the initial mandatory
pre-semester training in late August.

Wayzata High School is looking for tutors in the AVID program. AVID is a
new elective class that helps B+ through C range students reach their
