The conference theme, "Where Do We Go From Here?" was inspired by a
speech Dr. Martin Luther King delivered in Atlanta, GA in 1967. King
said,
"Many of the ugly pages of American history have been obscured
and forgotten... America owes a debt of justice which it has only
begun to pay. If it loses the will to finish or slackens in its
determination, history will recall its crimes and the country that
would be great will lack the most indispensable element of greatness--
justice."
The Human Rights Day Conference will feature over 20 workshops on some
of today's most important human rights issues. The department
anticipates continuing education credits will be available in
Continuing Legal Education (CLE) including Elimination of Bias, Social
Work, Peace Officers Standards Training (POST), Human Resources, and
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

1 Million Strong to Build a Village in Somalia
UniFersal.com has teamed up with, the non-profit organization, Lift Kids to give everyone an opportunity to help out with the crisis in Somalia.
Minneapolis, MN, November 30, 2007: UniFersal.com has pledged to give $.10 to the cause for every person that becomes a member on their website from December 1, 2007 to April 30, 2008. The goal is to achieve one million new members by April 30, 2008. It does not cost anything to become a member or to use the services of UniFersal.com.
Why Somalia?
Somalia has the worst humanitarian crisis in Africa. Seventeen years of civil war has caused an economic collapse throughout the country. According to United Nations officials, Somalia has higher malnutrition rates, more current bloodshed and many fewer aid workers than Darfur, which is often publicized as the world's most pressing humanitarian crisis and has taken clear priority in terms of getting United Nations-backed aid. The people in Somalia are hungry, exposed, sick and dying. The few aid organizations willing to brave a lawless, notoriously dangerous environment cannot provide enough relief to help the suffering people.
