Gladys Reyes Hit-and-Run Update
Pioneer Press, ST. PAUL - The driver, 33-year-old Mauricio Sanchez, responsible for hitting and dragging 11-year-old Gladys Reyes with his van has been formally charged with two counts of criminal vehicular operation resulting in great bodily harm. He is being held in Hastings, with bail posted at $100,000. His trial will begin Feb. 21. [full story here]
If convicted, Sanchez may face up to 10 years in prison, and $20,000 fine.
Gladys is still at Regions Hospital. Her right arm was amputated the night of the accident, she has many broken bones, and will require several surgeries. The family, however, has no medical insurance. A fund has been started to help pay for her medical expenses. Contributions can be made at any US Bank to the Gladys Reyes Benefit Account.
