Flogging Molly

Tonight when I got home from class, I saw a CD sitting on my desk with a note from my daughter on it. “Dad, This is the band I went to see last night, I hope you like it.” So I had to pop it in the CD player and see what it was. Flogging Molly songs seem to be something like Celtic rock-n-roll. I like it. It’s strange but good.
One of the songs on the CD seems appropriate for tonight’s topic. Feeling flogged in one of your classes? Sitting on the steps outside of the building before class, I talked to one of my classmates about the Korean class. He was expressing sentiments like the song on the CD, “It’s been the worst day since yesterday.”
The conclusion we came to though was that we just need to keep working hard and we will ultimately be better off for it. An old saying in Russian that I remember every time I have a difficult time is “Persistence is the key to success.” When we feel like we’ve been flogged and It’s been the worst day since yesterday, just keep going, it’ll get better. Ultimately we will be better off.

Yes, It would be nice if I could figure out how to display other character sets in these blogs, like Cyrillic and Korean Hangul! In Russian, that phrase sounds like: oo-porst-va, klootch k' oo-spyechoo. I've found it especially true in learning languages. If we think about it, we can see that even with our native language we are learning and improving throughout our entire lives. With foreign languages we tend to expect to become fluent in a few short lessons. At least we want to. It's very frustrating at the beginning stages of learning to not make faster progress, but everything builds on whatever we do learn and some day we hear something and think, "wow, I just totally understood what they said!"
We can apply this idea to anything we want to change about ourselves also. How long do we have to persist? Haha, I think it's until we master it.
