Lake Johanna 4 Mile Race Results

Today I surpassed my original goal of 7:30 miles. This is a major accomplishment for me, considering that I just started running about 10 weeks ago and was running 10 minute miles. The first mile I ran today was at 7 minutes. The second mile was at exactly 14 minutes. The third mile was at 21 minutes! I was running 7 minute miles and that was motivating, but then I hit the hill! That almost killed me. But I kept going. It was about 3/4 miles long and slowed me down, mainly because I couldn't get enough oxygen. My legs seemed fine though and I picked upt the pace to run the last mile in 8:04, for a total time of 29:04 for 4 miles. That met my overall goal of under 30 minutes total, with almost a minute to spare! In two weeks I have the Human 8K race at St. Thomas to look forward to. It's a longer distance but almost totally flat. So I'm going to try for 7 minute miles in that race. Now I have to figure out how to train for the next two weeks.

Thanks! I feel good about my progress so far. Except I just discovered today I made a mistake about the 8k Human race. It's this coming weekend, on Sunday and not two weeks from now. So there will be no special training for that as I hoped. But I ran today and I'll run hard on Wednesday, lightly on Friday, take Saturday off, and race on Sunday. whew! I have no false illusions about how hard athlete level fitness really is. Especially if I've been dormant for so many years. Tonight I'm exhausted from commuting to work, running at lunchtime, running errands on my bike after work and riding back home. I could hardly get out of the chair after dinner haha. But it's worth it to me. This is really a great experience so far.

Hello, can anyone tell me how many times you would have to run around a track to get to 3/4 mile run? I would like to know because I'm trying to get ready for my correction officer assessment test. Thanks for any assistance. Lee McGhee
