Crappy Attitude
Here is a crappy attitude by a citizen of this fine country made up of mostly immigrants, refugees and their decendants. (from a letter to the Star Tribune) :
"We have separation of church and state in this country. Why not separation of church and work? Why should employers be held ransom to ridiculous claims of religious persecution by a group of people whom we never asked to come to this country?
I have a simple solution: If you feel you are being persecuted, go back to where you came from and leave us alone! We have many larger problems to deal with than to cater to you.
Al Heinle, Maple Grove."
Where is this guy's love? It's downright ugly and embarrassing.

Yeah, this guy is a piece of work. The Strib seems to print letters that reflect more on the writer than on what s/he has to say. This is one such example.
Just to play the Devil's Advocate, however, I sort of see his point. As far as I know, employers are under no moral or legal obligation to accommodate religious observance in the workplace. It isn't racism, bigotry, or discrimination. It's business. If a religious practice interferes with work getting done, or if it scares customers away, employers shouldn't be forced to tolerate it.
That said, the "they can just go back where they came from" mentality is shallow, ignorant, and just plain hateful, not to mentionm not a realistic solution to any problem.
