Digital artist Jim Campbell
The digital artist I chose was Jim Campbell. Much of his work is interactive, either with the viewer, or the surroundings. For example. As you walk up to a video screen, your image is projected... and eventually bursts into flames. As you move even closer, a woman walks up to your flaming body.
His work is very disturbing and extremely unconventional. After a look at his website, I became much more interested in his work. I would absolutely love to see an exhibition of his.
Another one of his works shows a woman moving from a chair to a phone (projected on a screen...) over 24 hours... The woman, at midnight is sitting, at midday is walking towards the phone, and at 11:59pm answering a phone.
Some of his work uses computers and algorithms pretty extensively. He must have a background in programming or some engineering friends. His work is very resourceful using whatever he can, however, it does not feel pieced together from junk in any way.
Some of his public work uses large screens of LED's or bulbs to project a highly pixelated image, most often a figure.
Another idea of his I found fascinating is his "illuminated averages" where he basically stacks every frame of a movie or moving sequence, and lights it up from behind... some are very obscure and abstract, however, some are very recognizable.
