Guns at Town Hall Meeting

Besides yelling out half truths and hatred, the angry right now feels like it's o.k. to bring guns to town hall meetings, especially ones where President Obama is speaking.

Now the states where this is happening people have a right to carry firearms and the Secret Service is well aware of the gun toters and insist that the President is in no danger. But still is sends a chilling message. The gun slingers claim they have the right to free speech but doesn't everyone else? And can you think of a better way to suppress speech than by waving a gun in someone's face?

Also let's face it, there are a bunch of right-wing looney's out there who would love to get a shot at President Obama. Seeing this just fuels that, even if the Secret Service insists everything is under control.

One last thought, what do you think the reaction would have been during President Bush's term if someone had brought a semi-automatic rifle to a town hall meeting? Heck two guys got arrested in Denver for wearing T-shirts that said "No Bush." If a gun toting Bush Town Hall protester had brown skin I somehow think he'd be residing in Guantanamo right now.

The writer and this blog manager should take time to actually read this stuff and ask "Who are the hate mongers really?"

"yelling half truths"? This Lib writer can't name ONE recent town hall event (and back it up) where a private citizen showed up and entered with a firearm. The whole truth is that the only thing brandished at such events was one guy made simple note of his NRA membership and his belief in his constitutional right.

Apparently, as Hillary screeched a few years ago to her adoring libs, "we have the right to stand up and raise objections to any administration...". Oh, unless you're objecting to Obama's positions. Then you're villanized as evil and Nazi. Remember Obama words that he welcomed all opinions as valuable to the debate process to enrich the issue with fresh ideas? Oh, now that people are objecting to the details of these Health Care bills, now he and libs want objectors to shut up. Do enlightened libs EVER hear such contraditions?

Lib writer, asking people to "face it", should back up his gross statements by listing by name, date and quote exactly WHO said they want a shot at Obama. Where was the moral outrage of enlightened libs when President Bush was the subject of a publically released movie about assasinating him? Liberal Dems didn't say boo and liberal media stated that the film was "art" and is perfectly "acceptable as such".

Who are the hate mongers, really?

Here's something shocking (or is it?)
"Since Mr Obama took office, the rate of threats against the president has increased 400 per cent from the 3,000 a year or so under President George W. Bush, according to Ronald Kessler, author of In the President's Secret Service."

David, thanks for stopping by.

I have no problem with people opposed to Obama's policies standing up and expressing that opposition. And as you mentioned, Obama has supported that in past too. But the opposition needs to be civil, it needs to be truthful, and needs to be constructive. Few of these protesters even come close to meeting that criteria.

As for proof about threats, besides the fact that RLW provide above, how about this from ABC News on August 14:

The Secret Service is investigating a Maryland man who held a sign reading "Death to Obama" and "Death to Michelle and her two stupid kids" outside a town hall meeting this week.

Is that enough proof for you or do you want more? Because it's pretty easy to find. Just look at the comments at Free Republic.

Finally while I admit that no one entered a Town Hall meeting with a gun, I stated as much in the post. Even having a gun in the public areas near the meetings (and it's been more than one such instance, btw) these people are doing more than exercising their "right to possess a firearm." They are tacitly and not so tacitly enciting and encouraging violence against the President and against anyone who happens to have an opinion different from their own.

dave-everyone is entitled to free speech, but you and your cowardly, gun toting, drinkers of hateorade are not entitled to yell fire in a crowded theatre. that's not protected speech. nor is toting a gun to a civil debate near a sitting president. get some balls and support an honest, open conversation. not some ass, living in his parent's basement who ties his manhood to a semi automatic assault weapon or pistol. grow up.

drinkers of hateorade. That's pretty good Timmy B!

It's like I'm in the 5th grade again. Lots of immature name calling because someones feelings are hurt and names are the best they can come up with. Drinkers of hateorade; You mean like Cindy Sheehan. Where did all her hate for the Bush war go? Oh, perhaps because it's now Obama's war she feels war is ok? Phonies with agendas are always exposed with time. Anyone notice the change in direction of organizations like code pink?
Anyhow, I sure hope nothing happens to Obama's person. I love watching him discredit himself and he's taking the democratic party with him. YAH!!! America's eyes are opening!
"We have the right to stand up and raise objections to any administration"... Thank you Hillary!

This is ridiculous!, these gun toters would of been dragged out by their hair in bush's day!.
I also like the hateorade call.
