Friday Random Top 10

I've given up sugar and sweets cold turkey until Thanksgiving. It's been surprisingly easy to do. I think after a couple of pieces of pumpkin pie, I will continue with my "sugar fast." Let's celebrate with a random top 10:

1. Loveless Love -- The Feelies
2. Black Hole -- She & Him
3. The Prisoner -- The Clash
4. Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band -- The Beatles
5. The Cities Are Burning -- Rev. F.D. Fitzpatrick
6. Like A Soldier -- Johnny Cash
7. Clementine -- Decemberists
8. Bossa Nova Baby -- Elvis Presley
9. Celebrated Summer -- Husker Du
10. Smash the Mirror (live) -- The Who

Bonus: Can't Hold On -- Cheap Trick

That was a little different. Hey Big Mak, I think I might do a story out of this one. Only wrinkle will be to incorporate SPLHCB into the mix.

What's your top 10?

The cities are burning their copies of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band?

"Water is Wide" - James Taylor, New Moon Shine
"One of Our Submarines" - Thomas Dolby, The Golden Age of Wireless
"Under African Skies" - Paul Simon, Graceland
"Strawberry Letter 23" - The Brothers Johnson, Right on Time
"True Colours" - Go West, Aces and Kings: The Best of Go West
"Sex Symbol" - Marc Jordan, Living in Marina Del Rey and Other Stories
"Love So Right" - Bee Gees, Here at Last...Live
"Something We Can Do" - Vitamin Z, Rites of Passage
"Girl in the Moon" - Icehouse, Man of Colours
"Walk on the Ocean" - Toad the Wet Sprocket, PS: A Toad Retrospective

Toad the Wet Sprocket is one of those groups I never appreciated at the time but enjoy now. And Vitamin Z was a great 80's pop group that never quite got off the ground.

I don’t get it. What did she mean by loveless love? I was confused as Michelle described our relationship akin to a black hole, and she felt like the prisoner locked up in stalag of Sgt Pepper's. Lonely hearts club band members are happier than I am, she confessed. I looked at the 24 hour news station blaring on the TV and said ‘Shel, I don’t care if the cities are burning out there. I am like a soldier, willing to do anything for you. For us! Michelle looked at me sadly and said remember when you would sing Oh My Darlin’ Clementine in your sweet bossa nova? Baby, where did that man go? She was crying now. What happened to our "celebrated summer?" You were so nice to me then. I stand up, towering over her. I am the same guy! I’m screaming and pacing the floor. I promise I can still be a good man, can’t you see that? I smash the mirror sitting on the dresser. She’s obviously scared now. I really can't hold on anymore and I fear for Shel’s safety and my own….

O.k. that got kinda dark there at the end.

1. "Over the Neptune/Mesh Gear Fox" Guided by Voices Propeller
2. "Teenage Spaceships" Smog Knock Knock
