Friday Random Top 10

Bike's in the shop for its annual tune-up. Snow and ice will be gone this week. It won't be long. Here's a top 10 to celebrate:

1. Jill Can Drive -- Trip Shakespeare
2. Her Majesty -- The Beatles
3. Wait Up -- Uncle Tupelo
4. I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry -- Cowboy Junkies
5. Bodies -- Sex Pistols
6. I Can See Clearly Now -- Soul Asylum
7. God Damn Job -- The Replacements
8. My Oklahoma Home - Bruce Springsteen
9. You Can't Do That -- The Beatles
10. Just a Closer Walk With Thee -- Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash

Bonus: That Lucky Old Sun -- Johnny Cash

Almost exactly a year after I became known on the intertubes as "the guy who hates The Beatles" I have two Beatles songs. Go figure. At 23 seconds, Her Majesty is only tied for 16th as shortest song on my I-pod. Shortest song? Relaxing With Lee (False Start) by Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie at 8 seconds. What's your shortest song?

* We Insist – Zoe Keating - Natoma
* The Mountain – Heartless Bastards - The Mountain
* Dancing Through Sunday – AFI – Sing the Sorrow
* Crawl Away – Tool - Undertow

Shortest is Aphex Twin - Aussois (0:13)

I know every thing is all right in the world when Mak has NIN and Nirvana on his top 10.

My longest tracks are a spoken word by Jack Kerouac (28:46) and Allen Ginsberg (25:42). My longest song is Echos by Pink Floyd (23:29)

All the really short songs that I have are jazz musicians letting out a toot before the rest of the band's ready to roll. The really long ones are the Dead ...

2) Busy Bodies - Elvis Costello/Armed Forces
3) Going to Brazil - Motörhead/1916
4) Roll Over Vaughn Williams - Richard Thompson/Henry the Human Fly

One of my older brother's had a Uriah Heep 8-track with a faux mirror on the cover. "Easy Living", man.

Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged. Let he who is without Kiss or Jethro Tull album cast the first stone.
