Facebook

I just started my facebook and i'd have to say it is kind of creepy. Why do i want to know what everyone is doing every min. of the day and i definetaly do not want people to know my every step. I like that only your friends can veiw your website and everyone must be accepted as your friend before they can even see anything besides your picture and the school you attend. I never had a myspace but all my friends did and it seems like you can personalize that more than a facebook. My friends would have backgrounds with music and tons of photo albums and just random things on their website, like a fridge with magnets that anyone can write notes on. I have not spent much time looking at the whole website, but if anyone knows how to personalize your facebook let me know and try to explain it to me in a comment!

"Bobos"

"Bobos" are Brooks meaning for the educated class, it comes from the words bourgeousie adn Bohemian. I thought that "Bobo" was intersting, Brooks was basicallly generalizing humans and how they act. Many things he said are true like; two kinds of pleasure where one is looked down upon and the other is not. For example smoking and drink are bad pleasures. Also he states how parents have become more strict since in the 1950's adn i guess that depends on your parents, but i think generally they can because there are so many more ways for people un derage to get into drinking or drugs. Personally my parents have been very lenient. I think Brooks made great observations about people and i found some parts funny and sometimes easy to realate to.

Physics

I took honors physics in high school so i figured the beginning of my physics class here would be review and hopefully somewhat easy. I was wrong!! I do not understand anything that is going on and my TA does not speak english very clearly so it is hard for me to try and ask for help because sometimes she just doesn't understand what i am trying to ask. My thoughts about physics being really hard was strengthened when we got our first test back. My score was forty four out of 100. That is probably the worst score i have ever gotten on a quiz throught school. I did not think i did that bad, but my lecture teacher graded our personal quiz and he graded pretty hard, but my TA graded are group quiz and she graded really easy because we ended up with 21 out of 25 on the group portion when we only finished one third of the problem, but i am not complaining. I now know that i need to study more for the next quiz and if anyone is in Physics 1301 and wants to put together a study group before our next quiz i would be happy to join.

Peer Revision

I thought the group discussions on our paper went very well. I got a lot of feedback on what I need to improve and what was good in my paper. My group told me that my summary was good but i need to separate my feelings about the subject from the summary and also talk about emotional appeal and other rehtorical views that Bush used. That was the first time that I actually used a group revision discussion to my benifit. In high school we would have our peers read it over, but no one really took it to seriously and you really did not get many specifics, all the comments were "your paper is good" or "you need to add a little more" just about a broad subject. Hopefully because of this group discussion i get a better grade on my paper, i am not the best writer and English is probably my worst subject. So i guess i will see!!!

Gilmore Girls!

If you have never heard about the show Gilmore Girls you are really missing out! Today my boyfriend showed up at my dorm with a suprise for me and i was pretty nervous cause he can have some weird taste sometimes, but i absolutely loved it. He bought me the sixth season of Gilmore Girls on DVD that just came out tuesday, i had no idea it was out already. So tonight i watch three episodes and i was up until one thirty. It is really addicting, but you really need to watch it from the beginning. I would say it is more of a girls show because it is about a mother and daughter relationship which sounds really cheesy but for some reason i got really hooked on it. I started watching it because one of my friends liked the show and owned the first season and now we are both obsessed. All my all friends think it is really annoying, but when we put it in they get into the show and want to keep watching it. So, if you have never seen this show you need to watch it, I highly, highly reccomend it.

Winter!

Ok, what happened to the weather! Just a couple of days ago the temp. was in the sixties and seventies. Now, it feels like it is thirty degrees outside with the wind. Yesterday it was raining and I thought it looked like snow because it was not falling straight to the ground, it was swaying from side to side a little. I am not good with winter, but i guess i am used to it because i have lived in Minnesota my whole life. I hate winter because i hate wearing jackets and i always wear flip flops even if there is snow on the ground, my feet get a liitle cold but oh well, i hate wearing socks! The one good thing is i like to wear sweatshirts and be comfortable sometimes, but that does not make up for all the negatives. I feel that my mood is better when it is sunny and warm outside. I guess i am looking forward to spring now cause i do not see the temperature getting any better. If any one could tell me if the cold weather started this early last year would be great, cause last year I swear September was at least warm?

Virtue

How I find myself aquiring virtue/ what virtue means to me? I think of virtue as doing good for people in your career, your everyday life, and basically making changes in peoples lives. I hope to do that through my career as a chemical engineer, where I will be able to reasearch and test new products to hopefully save some peoples lives and come closer to finding cures to many diseases that are unbeatable in todays world. I chose this career partly because of the aspect of being able to help many people and hopefully save lives. Virtue to me is having an idea than putting that idea into action, whether it works or not.

Top Ten Movies

Here is a list of my top ten favorite movies. If you haven't seen them I highly suggest you should. Some are chick flicks, romance, comedy, and horror fillms. I like all movies so there will be a movie for everyone!
1. Pride and Prejudice
2. The Notebook
3. Talledaga Nights, The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
4. Leagally Blonde 1 and 2
5. Spaceballs
6. My Best Friends Wedding
7. Saw and Hostel (not really scary, but there was a lot of gore which made them scary to me)
8. Gone in 60 Seconds
9. Traffic
10. Erin Brockovich

My all time favorite actress or actor is Julia Roberts. I have seen everyone of her movies and I would highly reccomend any of her movies to you. If you have any movies that you think are really good, please right me a comment and let me know. I love to watch movies when there is nothing to do and I have seen so many that I do not know which one to watch next, plus i hate watching movies twice unless they are really good! These are just a few, but I am sure I will think of more later.

Jon Stewarts "America" (the book)

If you have not read this book you have no idea what you are missing out on. This was the only book that I could read and laugh out loud to many times. It is stated as "a citizens guide to Democrac inaction." I was only required to read the first and seventh chapter, but I was able to check a copy out at the library and I skimmed through looking at all the diagrams. I love how the book can make fun of so many things in our government, but yet it wont hurt anyones feelings because the whole book is one big joke (as in funny). One of the many hillarious diagrams is the map of the Washington D.C. of the future! This includes: "Dangerously efficient traffic flow lleads to desing and construction of 700% more traffic circles, the Jefferson memoriall offramp, the air, space and holocaust museum, and the Ronald Reagan Memorial Naming Center." I highly reccomend this book and to anyone wondering you can pick it up probably at almost every library.

I wanted to share one more article in this book that I think is one of the funniest. It is actually a diagram of a typical campaign bus. in the back there is a "capet stain (semen), left over from when bus was used by Rock the Vote." You have the "Candidates child, it was either this or rehab," and my favorite, "the driver, preferably mixed race. Candidate must call driver by first name to sho connection with common man." I do not want to give anymore away but trust me on this one, the book is funnier when you can look at the pictures, especially in color. Again, I highly reccommend this book and have fun reading it!
