Calculus

Today, i recieved my gateway exam back from my calc TA, which we took for the first time on thursday. The test consists of ten derivatives and you must get eight out of ten exactly right to pass. If you pass the first time you get fifty points no matter if you get eight, nine or ten right. If you do not get at least eight right you have to take it a second time for forty points and if you do not pass that time you take it for the last time for thirty points. I believe if you do not pass after the third time you fail the class. Well, we got our test back and i got eight out of ten for the first time. I am very happy, because it is my first test in college that i got 100% on.

work

Working at Bailey hall Dining services has become very boring and long. My favorite manager was moved to fronteir hall and so i am stuck with working for two managers, one who is really strict and another who is very lazy. I do not mind working for the strict one because she can be very nice if you are always doing something, however the other manager just gets on my nerves. One day i was at work with my other two usual employees and the bad manager was working. There was a buffet dinner in the back room for one of bailey halls residence floors. I have never seen anyone in there eating, so when it came time to cleaning at seven me and my two co-workers did our usual and we got done early so we helped the dish room. Well, we all finished at eight whch is when we are scheduled to get off, but we walk downstairs and the manager asked us if we cleaned the back room. We said no, because there were many things we did not know what to do with. But she told us we had to do that. We were very frustrated just because she couldn't get off her computer and come upstairs to tell us, or even tell us before the day was over. That is just one little thing that happened, but this sort of thing happens every time she is manager and it is very frustrating.

Today!

Today my roomate moved all her stuff out by the time i got back from st. cloud this weekend. it was really wierd to walk into my room and half the room be empty, but i got some stuff from my house and set my room up. It is actually pretty nice to have all this space, but i am just realizing how lonely it can be in a dorm room by yourself. i think it could be nice cause i will have a lot of time to get my homework done, but then i might go crazy, because my whole dorm is pretty quiet as it is. But as i was walking into my room after dinner two girls came up to me and said that one of them might be my new roomate which will be pretty wierd to start with a new roomate, especially someone i have not really talked to at the dorm. I guess we will wait and see!!

Roomate, Cont....

So, as i was saying before, i did not know if my roomate would move out because it was depending on wether or not she got into St. Kates. But i found out today that she is moving our this sunday! She is going to move home, which she really did not want to, but in order for her to get a portion of her money back from housing she has to be out by sunday. However, she is going to finish the semester here at the U, but next semester she is going to St. Kates if she is accepted, and if she does not get accepted she is going to go to a tech college. So now that i know for sure she will not be here i have been making plans for the room, but i still do not know if i am going to get a roommate. Someone told me there was still people in the lounges in our dorm, so i am thinking they will probably move one of those girls into my room, which will most likely suck because it is half way through the semester. But, i will let you guys know on the details of my roommate in later blogs!!!

Test, tests, and more tests

This week has been so crazy because of the studing, for my three tests, my paper for english, and work, and then also having a social life. First of all i had my rough draft due for my english research paper due on monday, and then i have a chemistry midterm on wednesday, an exam in calculus on thursday, a group quiz in physics on thursday, a solo quiz in physics on friday moring, and on top of all this i have to work every monday and wednesday and every other sunday. I am very stressed out this week, but i am getting through it, and mainly right now the only thing i am nervous about are my physics quizzes, because i need to get at least an average B to move up from my failing grade in the class right now. If anyone has any advice, feel free to write me a message.

Roommate

Today i found out that my roommate is applying to St. Kates college and if she gets accepted she will be moving out of the dorm at the end of this semester. I heard that it is not that hard to get into St. Kates and because she is a good student she will probably be accepted, so this is basically a for sure thing. I am kind of sad because i do not like to live alone right now, but then it will be kind of nice because i will have a lot of free space. I do not know for sure if i will get a new roommate which is probably my least favorite outcome, it seems like there is not really anyone who is still in need of a room especially on the st. paul campus. I already planed what i would do with the room if she left and i did not get another roommate. I would unloft my bed and keep hers lofted and i would then get my own tv, fridge, and microwave. I would also have double the closet and dresser space, which would be super nice!!! I guess we will see what it comes down to at the end of the semester.

Shopping!

Today i recieved my extra loan money in my checking account. Right when i saw that i recieved the money i called my boyfriend and told him that we were going shopping that night. I had to buy a laptop, printer (4 in 1), and and miscellaneous items for my room and the computer and printer. I was really excited when i went to office max and found a really good 4 in 1 printer for 60 dollars. I bought that along with paper and a flash drive. Now, the only other thing i need was a laptop. So, i went to best buy where they had a sale for a laptop that my sister bought the day before, and it was only $450. I get there and the guy helping me was a major asshole and he told me they were sold out, so i saw the same computer with a small upgrade for $479 dollars so i asked for that one and he said that was sold our, so then i asked for that same computer with another upgrade for $499 dollars and that was sold out too. I was so frustrated!! I then went to a different best buy where the same thing happened, so i switched from best buy and went to circut city. I ended up buying the same exact computer as best buy, but for $600 because that was the cheepest. I was so frustrated, but now it is worth it to have my laptop!

Postman

"Amusing ourselves to Death" is the title of Niel Postmans book, I was scheduled to give a presentation on this book, so it made me look more in depth to the meaning. There were some parts in the book that made me laugh, when he talks about all the cliches with the world and especially Reverend Grahm mistaking NBC for god. I feel he uses a lot of generalization of peple in this world and how they act, but i am starting to find that i like those kinds of books. I think that even though he is generalizing it is pretty true, cause i can see many people like that, if not myself. I think it is a good book and i reccommend that you read it!

Halloween

I just found out that my whole entire family is coming into town the day of the Anoka Halloween parade. It is a big deal because my mom has four brothers who live in Washington, Oregon, California, and Arizona. She also has two sisters who live here and one sister who lives in west virginia. I warned my boyfriend, who i have been with for two years, that they are probably the loudest group of people you will ever meet. He has yet to see them all together in one place, normally they come in to town by themselves. I am pretty excited to see all them, because they are so much fun and alot of my cousins are coming into town too. I think the main reason for them coming into town is to see my grandma who is not doing well and they do not know how long she will make it. My grandma has parkinsons and altymers. But she is doing ok right now. Anyways, if anyone has never heard of the Anoka Halloween parade, you should really go. Anoka is called the Halloween Capitol of the World, it was named a long time ago, but the parade is so much fun.

Research Paper

Our new assignment got me thinking about some topics that would interest me and i would want to write a 7 to 9 page paper on. My roomate suggested talking about fashion throught the decades, which i would love to write about, but during class i found that it had to be a contemporary public issue. While talking to my group i came up with some research topics that would fit with the criteria and would interst me. First of all smoking, either the health affects or the smoking ban that has come into affect and the controversy on this. Also, stem cell research and cloning, or the ever more popular cell phone and the health effects. As of right now i do not know what i want to write about, i will have to think it over a little more before making a decision because i do not want to put all my time into one topic and get bored of it in one week.

Physics, Again!!!!

I was pretty excited after my thursday classes, because i had a group quiz in physics in the morning and we new how to do everything and was able to finish the whole problem with twenty min. left to spare. I then had my first calculus midterm, which was pretty easy or so i thought, i think i should get an a because i was able to check most my answers and they seem to have worked out. If this is true it will be my first A on a midterm so far in college. But then i had physics this morning where i had to take a solo quiz. I am really bad at physics i have decided and none of it makes sense. I answered all the questions so hopefully i will get some credit and all i want is to not fail this quiz because i have to make up for my F on the first quiz. But the quiz is over and when i am done writing this i have no homework for the whole weekend, so am totally forgetting about physics and i am going to have a lot of fun this weekend so i do not think about it!!!!

The Future

What do you think the world would be like in 50 years? This was a question posed in my english class a few days ago. Personally I have a more optomistic point of view on the world in fifty years. When i was talking with my group the day the question was asked i thought about it more and i think the world could get a lot better. I feel that with all the reasearch and technology advancements there will be many more cures for all diseases, which in turn will lengthen lifespan. Plus, i have heard that technology is increasing exponentially and i really want to see what the next thing they come up with will be. This is what i see, that is if war does not take a bad turn and the whole world ends up in a war! I guess we will have to see!

"Hinder"

My favorite music used to be country, but my taste is starting to change. I now like more of rock, i guess that is what you could call i do not really know. My favorite two bands are Hinder and Nickleback, i just recently bought both of their new cd's and i pretty much listen to them non stop. In fact, i am listening to Hinder right now. I was very upset that i missed Nickelbacks concert with Hinder. Since i missed the concert i seem to see about five people a day wearing one of the concert t-shirts. It is like when you go to buy a car that you really like and dont really see many around, you then start to drive and see about a million of them. My favorite song is "lips of an angel"even though it is probably overplayed i dont think i could ever really get sick of it. If anyone knows if Nickelback or Hinder are coming back to Minnesota or a state close by let me know cause i am for sure going this time. Thanks!!!
