Inherent in globalization is the movement of people, products, and ideas. As thousands of newcomers join our communities in search of a better life, they find themselves unprepared to face the challenges brought by the differences among us. Approaching globalization as "diversity," not "uniformity," we will be searching for what makes us different from each other, touching on cultural expressions such as the built environment, gender relations, art, food, dance, dress, music, language, writing, religion, and landscapes. In the process, we will explore ways by which design and its related policies can foster social justice.
